Pressing ESCAPE in counterstrike .....

...... should bring up the menu, right? You know, the one with quit, configuration, etc, etc. Thing is, when I press ESCAPE, the screen goes black and the mouse cursor appears on the screen (almost as if ive alt-tabbed, but it cant switch windows). I 'CAN' get by without this screen, as I know enough about q1/q3 configs to understand enough to manually edit the configuration settings in the cfg directly, but it's bonkers! I've asked around, read guides, gone through 16 pages of this forum till 2.20 am last night :sleeping: but I seem to be the only one with this problem.

I'm running win2k pro SP2, Geforce 2 GTS pro, SB live, CS mod version 1.3.

I tried to find the command that brings this menu up and bind it to a key in my autoexec, or just do it at console, but having looked through the entire command list, there doesnt seem to be one.

Help me please.

The most frustrating thing about it (and any other game) is playing without a perfect config. I hate playing games where I don't know all the commands, etc and what to bind where. It drives me mad!!!
Atm I have some radio binds setup, but every time I do it, the radio menu wont go afterwards, even tho I have 'deselect' in the alias! gggggrrrrrrrr
Also, the voice thing dont work, even tho its enabled in my cfg. Nor can I get the knife to bind to a key. ggggrrrrrr

i had that with stuff not turning off.i did me own little group of buy aliases.i think it depends how many "waits" you put in it ,depending on your connection of course.i find for example that although my stuff works fine on my regular sub-100 ping,if bt are having one of their days (!) and ive got 200 ping it dont deselect for me either.
of course there has to be an alias for deselect,you got that yeah?
lots of servers dont use the voice thing any more ,that maybe the problem

alias +jumpcl "+jump; slot10"
alias -jumpcl "-jump"
bind "x" "+jumpcl"

instead of your normal jump - works a treat, just jump to clear it.

Ah, thanks for the help. I thought deselect was an in-game command, not part of a script I butched Works now .......... most of the time. Think ill use your jump clear too itchy ta

Some more general help would be appreciated ........

I seem to be able to unlload a SMG into somones face point-blank and they don't flinch ............ but all someone has to do is turn to look at me and I'm dead on the floor. I'm obviously missing something ......... prolly my q3 style aint helpin

Mate it IS your q3 style.as i said on another thread the "lag" on cs compared to quake is extremely different.due to player predicition i find with cs u got to aim right at the enemy.i been playing cs for 3 or 4 months and ive got quite reasonable at it after a start similar to yours by the sound of it.however i have turned to rtcw lately due to all the cheats/accused cheats and whinging kids,and i had forgotton how on q3 games you fire as if to let the enemy walk into the bullet rather than fire at where he is.i think this is also because of the very good idea (imo) in cs that when you get hit you stop for a second or two and dont just keep going like in quake.
consequently a pure quake player in cs tends to fire one bullet at the opponant and 3 where hes going to be,thus the 3 are lost as the enemy stopped still absorbing the first shot.then he turns around and blows your head off
all just my own experience of course but something you'l get used to.what with the anti cheat stuff on bw i may return to the fold shortly.see you out there

Thanks Throd, I'll bear that in mind and see if it improves at all. I guess it's just not what im used to.

I want this

mouse1 = +attack
mouse2 = +attack2

simple enough, I managed that

.....

F = draw knife

mouse right side button (bound in win2k to F12) = Primary wep (e.g. this will be the SMG, shotgun, rifle or whatever I bought)

a = Pistol (whatever one I buy)

These 3 im having trouble with. I know its prolly simple, but ive got in a right old mess with alias's, etc, etc and completely lost the plot!

Am I right in assuming that I only need, wep wise, a key to get to my primary wep, a key to my secondary, and a key to my knife ....... as you can only have these 3 at once?
I have a rotating grenade script thingy which allows me to scroll thru the dif types, so thats sorted.
Any help would be greatly appreciated ...... so I can at least still die lots, but do so with a nice config

O, btw, the ESCAPE key thing seemed to stop when I put the graphics back to OpenGL. I tried D3D just to see whether it would be any good. I guess this caused the prob. Maybe some conflict between my desktop settings and the CS settings ...... or summin I tweaked on the nvidia tab to improve q3 maybe.

Will they switch to it straight away? or does that key highlight it, then I have to press fire to use it? do i need bind "f" "slot3;wait;+attack;wait;-attack" or summin weird like that?
