Your power pool is how much mana you have.

Think of it like this. If you have 100 mana points and you put on a template with 25% power pool, you will get 125 mana points.

If you get items with + to power cap, that increases the amount of % to power pool you can get in your template. You don't automatically get more power pool and need to have both + to power cap and % to power pool in your template.

The maximum you can get is +50 to power cap and 75% power pool.

Hope that answers your question.

EDIT:aswell as you get 50%, you can cap it to 75% i think, only char its actually worth doing it on is a theurg (then i mean full cap) aswell as 25% duration caus then you can cast 15 earth pets, and they all last 1:15 min each..

I thought percent bonuseses to power pool (e.g. +10% power) only affected percent-based spells like rez etc, and have no effect at all on spells which have 'absolute' or 'normal' power costs (when you delve a spell and it says 'Power cost: 22' for example).

So if you had +75% power bonus you would only be able to cast the exact same number of absolute-cost spells, e.g. 20 DDs, while you could cast more percent based spells before your power runs out.

If this is true, then percent bonus to power pool can be thought of as 'percent-based spell cost reduction' - as it has no effect on the amount of mana points you have.

If you get absolute power bonus (e.g. +11 power) then it will allow you to cast more absolute-cost spells, but not let you cast more percent based spells like rez.

Correct me if I'm wrong about any of this - I've been unsure for a while now :)

My necro with 75% power pool and 50 power cap got 52 or so per tick from a fop as opposed to the odd 35 I got from my wiz with 26% power pool. So yeah, it does increase the actual amount of power you have.

A relatively simple test to see the effects for yourself - find a FoP, cast shields or whatever to lose a significant amount of power and look at how much power you get back per 'tick' from the FoP. Now remove the +powerpool items and you will see that the amount you get back per tick is lower.

The difference between fixed cost spells and % based ones is this:

To make it easy lets assume you have 100 power points and your DD's cost 20 power. If you can 25% power pool you'll be able to cast 1 extra DD before running out of power.

Now suppose a pet costs you 10% of your power pool - this is calculated from your powerpool before +powerpool bonuses so it will cost you 10 power per pet (10% of your 100 'base' power). Increasing powerpoll by 25% in this case will allow 2 extra pets to be cast.

(The numbers are purely fictitious and simplified to make the example simple!).

hmm surely though the 10% of pow taken per pet is of the new pow pool not the old one, going purely off maths, unless its taken as 10% of powerpool pre bonuses in which case its using the base number and not the actual number

100% (base) + 75% (overcap) must equal 175%?

but i would have thought the pets would just take 10% and cost more of your pow?

guess theurgs no better than me :) nice info though ppl i was sketchy over the mechanics of this- guess +pow is USELESS then yea?

Certainly that is how it SHOULD work from the wording but if that was actually how is did work then you would get no more pets from adding + power pool and yet you do :)

bit confucing, felt like an idiot posting it tbh:p

the thueg this REALLY confuced me, earth pets cost 12% of power so no matter what that means you can only cast about 8 pets, with no regen, so surely powerpool is wasted on a thueg?

As I tried to explain above - the cost of pet is calculated on your base power pool so if you get additional power pool the % power cost of the pet is reduced.

The only spells that are based upon a % of your current powerpool are rezzes. Rezzing someone will take 50% of your power regardless of cap.

Spells like pets on a theurg are based upon a %age of your base powerpool, so adding powerpool increases the number you can do.

The one thing i'm unsure of is if regen is effected.. i.e. will it take longer for someone with 50% powerpool to get back to full power than someone with 20% powerpool if neither are stood in a FOP.
