Possible to run game with old beta client?

I uninstalled DAoC at the end of March but have thought about seeing how it is going now.

Only problem is that my copy of DAoC was stolen with several other games from stuff I shipped to New Zealand.

I have an old copy of the DAoC beta (downloaded at the very start of the closed beta) and wondered if it is possible to use it instead. If I remember right, we had to patch it at some point so it could connect to the patch or some such server, but I don't still have this patch.

At the moment, I get an error 104 when the client tries to connect to the update server (no firewall active).

I know my CD key (emailed to me by GOA on Feb 15) and have game and subs login names and passwords and can even still access my account info on GOA's website, although as it is an inactive account I can't access RightNow.

If no one on these boards can help me with this, does anyone know of an email address for anyone in the know at GOA?

Many thanks

Try using RightNow at www.daoc-europe.com. Maybe they can help you out in regards to ip's etc. to the update servers, not much of a tech d00d myself so I don't know them but will try searching through my DAoC folder when I get home.

Alternatively, don't you have friends that play DAoC? Maybe it's possible to just copy the CD? I wouldn't call it warez since you were unfortunate enough to loose your original.

Or maybe if you know anyone playing, try having them burn their DAoC dir. to a CD and just copy it on to your maching, remove write protect and see if you can use that.

If you have a friend with a copy of DAoC just install that with your own CD-Key.
No need to copy the CD as once it is installed you do not need the disk again.

I am still using it after constant updates fyi

But as I have read in another thread, the update server seems to be down lately ?

Thanks for the suggestions.

I did already have the beta client and was loath to download the entire client on my three-legged mule of a connection.

Someone has now sent me a new 1KB update.dat file and things are working fine :)

I knew the answer was simple but 6 months had clouded my memory - I'm a born again newb!

Now to churn through 40MB of patches - ho-hum.
