Was looking at a laptop on eBay earlier. This guy was selling a Compaq Laptop. Registered in the USA. Item was shipping from Leige in the UK. I thought that Liege was in Belgium but thats another story.
Anyway his add has like over 1000 hits on the page. £10.00 no reserve. Now He calls this a seller approved auction. Basically you have to email the guy before bidding otherwise he will cancell your bid. So I emails him and his ask what is wrong with the laptop and why is there no bids even at £10.00.
He emails me back 30 mins before auction close and says I was the winner and arrange for a Western Union transfer of £10.00. I reply saying I was concerned that no bids were on it and wanted to pay via PayPal, Money Order or Bank Transfer. He came back and said that this was not possible as he did not have a checking account.
As far as I am aware, Western Union is a very insecure way of sending money. So Ireckon the scam goes like this. He offers to sell to all those that were interested at a very low price of say £10.00. Only 20 reply and send the £10.00 by Western Union. He does a runner. No way of tracing the money. No supprt from eBay as no real sale has taken place. You cant be arsed chasing around for the £10.00 you are out of pocket. A very nice way to earn your self £200.00
I am not the seller in this add btw
