I keep having this same popup well... popping up when im in game, this comes immediately to front screen and kicks me out of camelot because i run classic client and cannot run si or toa, rebooting the laptop isnt an option as i cant find the reset disks, i just need to know if anyone out there has any software or a link where i can download some anti popup software. This is being a right pain in the a**e, any links would be greatly appreciated.

If you use Win2K or WinXP then disable the messenger service.

The popups are casino things, its only on one of my accounts so far, its on my main Administrator account ( Im running Windows Xp ) ive created a new account called Camelot, linked the modem and daoc upto this and am going to try and pay on that account, hope it works, i also downloaded Aware 6.0 this took alot of bad things off my laptop but the casino one still keeps popping up.

Wish me luck!

Easy way to do it in case you can't be bothered to search:

Start
Run
Type SERVICES.MSC
Find the one called "Messenger" and double click it
Change "Startup Type" to "Disabled"
Under "Service Status" click "Stop"
Apply and OK, close the windows
Job Done.

Don't confuse "Messenger" with "MSN Messenger" - MSN is an instant messenger tool (duh), but Messenger is a tool for Admins and such like in WinXP.

Now I am not 100% certain on this, but having a firewall on also stops the Messenger popups. I just reinstalled one of the machines on my network and installed the Firewall - only remember to turn off Messenger a few days later. Out of interest, I disabled the firewall before I turned off Messenger, and within a couple of minutes the desktop was Pop-Up Central.

For firewalls, you can get free ones at www.zonelabs.com (Make sure you download the Free Version, and not the Free Trial) or www.sygate.com - again, Free Edition and not trial.

aye

the messenger service is the renamed winpopup service from NT

Essentially anyone who knows the ip of a system running messenger service can send messages using net send ip <message>

Irritiating and annoying. Control panel/services/messenger/stop/disable/apply/ok is the way to do it :D

If it is constantly bringing up a casino page, then it sounds like your browser has been hijacked, or you have spyware on your PC. There's one called CoolWebSearch (CWS) that Ad-aware can't remove (even though it says it does) and you need CWS Shredder to get rid of it - Its completely fine, I have just used it to get rid of a nasty browser hijack. Another good site is www.thespykiller.co.uk which has some good links and advice about spyware removal. I also run Spyware Blaster, which prevents these nasties getting on your computer in the first place. Hope this helps.

Also - there's a programme called Daocwin that allows you to alt tab, and run multiple accounts in classic mode - although technically this is still against the COC - as they've allowed windowed mode in SI and ToA, and it is undetectable by GOA, I wouldn't worry about using it. The most recent version can be found here.
