Poems: Traditional Minstrel Songs

Have any of you wondered what the minstrel is really singing when he wields that lute, flute or drum and takes up a happy little tune? Well, most minstrels do instrumental versions of their songs, but me, being the minstrel that I am, have concocted some vocals too. Enjoy!
Motivational Song
Onwards we go, to battle we speed,
With haste and swiftness, the song as our steed.
Run like the wind,
Run like the moonlight,
Run like the Devil would seek you to swordfight!
Song of Power
Our magic, while strong, needs power unending,
So that we the foe can succeed in fending.
Power shall flow for ever-more,
Filling our casters with mana galore.
Cast, wizard, cast!
Your pools will replenish.
Fast, wizard, fast!
Or the foe will us blemish.
Commanding Cadence
Sleep now, dear monster, your time has now come,
To forget all your troubles, let your body go numb.
Succumb to the tune, let the flute guide your hands,
Its music will soothe you and give you commands.
Sleep now, dear monster, we wish you no harm,
When woken you may though be missing an arm.

I espeicially like the end of the last song...

Sleep now, dear monster, we wish you no harm,
When woken you may though be missing an arm.

Very nice. :D

Very nice to hear different interpretations of our famous minstrel songs from a fellow colleague, Belomar.

When I head for war and the officer in charge asks me to motivate the people while we're waiting on the teleporter pad I usually go like ...

*grabs her drums*

No Mid, no madness,
though their sad power may prevail,
can posses, conquer my Albion's heart,
they rise to fail.

Albion's eternal,
long before borderlines were drawn,
when no flags flew, when no armies stood,
my realm was born.

And you ask me why love her,
through war, death and despair,
Albion's the constancy,
we who don't care.

And you wonder will I leave here - but how?
I CROSS OVER BORDERS BUT I'M STILL HERE NOW.

HOW CAN I LEAVE HERE?
WHERE WOULD I START?
LET OTHER REALMS' ARMIES TEAR THEMSELVES APART,
MY REALM'S ONLY BORDERS LIE AROUND MY HEEEAAART!

And after battle, when everybody is exhausted and longing for rest and entertainment I go like ...

*grabs her lute*

The smoke was slowly rising as the light began to fade,
there were fires on the skyline from some distant hibbie raid,
and I was riding out at seventeen to join my first brigade,
many years ago.

And I chanced upon a farmhouse with a woman took me in,
she gave me food and wine, she gave me shelter from the wind,
she delayed me from my regiment and service of my King,
many years ago.

And she said ...
Soldier, before I lose you to the fight,
oh my soldier, I'll make a man of you tonight,
she took me over, in the fading firelight,
and that wild and misty night she was my woman.

When I rose next morning I was gone before she stirred,
I tore myself away from there and left without a word,
the sound of distant infantry was the only thing I heard,
on that morning.

And in that day I aged then years and died a thousand deaths,
I learned to feel that frozen steel and fear within my breast,
but the lesson I remember til they lay me to my rest,
keeps returning.

Soldier, before I lose you to the fight,
oh my soldier, I'll make a man of you tonight,
she took me over, in the fading firelight,
and that wild and misty night she was my woman.

Ah well. I love to perform these songs. I guess I'll stick to everything I hear, from ancient Avalonian Chants to modern Highland Funk. Maybe some people who have grouped with me in the past remember that silly "Dawning On A Ludlow Sunday Morning" song? :)
Once I'm 50 I hope I'll be able to write my own songs. Songs like the ones above. Hmm, guess my trainer will have a lot more grey hairs until that day has come. *chuckles*

Fare thee well, my dear audience, and may fame and fortune smile upon thee :)

Superb as always :)

Now you just need to make the lyrics into macros.

How you play your flute and sing at the same time will remain a mystery to must of us ;) but you truly are a Songweaver Extraordinaire.

Powersong lyrics

Well, I like the ripoff from Wham for powersong.

The lyrics go something like this:

Wake me up before you gogo, dont leave me hanging like a jojo.
Wake me up before you gogo, im not planning on going solo.

Guess it fits the afk-powersong minstrel. ;-)
