I recently bought Quake3. I patched it to 1.27g and tried to join a server. I got on but as soon as i was about to start to play (i could see my gun etc) it left game and went to the main menu 
I tried a number of other servers and only managed to play on one of them all th other servers gave me the same problem of joining but then exiting to the main menu immediately
I patched up to 1.27h but this did not stop the problem. Can anyone suggest what i may be doing wrong that is causing this extremely annoying problem?
