Argggh I was like a Kiddy on Chritsmas morning. Got home from work and there was an unexpected pacakage from Play.com. Installed sweet as anything. Created my new EA Games account and it froze. So I went into standby and turned off zone alarms. By which time it had bombed out

Now it won't run at all. I have installed it 6 times to no avail. When I goto launch it I get a BF2 splash screen for 5 seconds then back to desktop. It is still running as a process with another associated process ~e5.0001 which is some kind of Macrovision protection thing. I have even gone to the lengths of formating and reinstalling with nothing

My spec is

P4 3.2 Ghz
1gb Kingston RAM
Radeon 9800XT
Asus Mobo

A freind thinks it maybe something simmilar to the copy protection on Splinter Cell called starfish or something which means only certain patched DVD ROM drives will run it. I have email EA Games with no luck

Any Suggestions ??

Nothing to do with your spec. I think you've already identified the problem, which is your DVD drive. I had the same problem with UT2004 a few years ago (which ironically drove me in to the arms or gamecopyworld so I could play with no CD - something I pointed out in no uncertain terms to Infogrames/Atari). You might be able to get a driver update for your DVD, or if you know someone who's got an external drive, run it and test on that. Problem is you can't go down the cracked DVD route because it won't let you on the servers :(

Well I have managed to get it installed after much installing and uninstalling. I think I got to the bottom of the problem. I installed the latest ATI Drivers prior to install. Diagnostics shown it as the latest drivers. However when I went into the display optins the ATI Control Panel was not there. So I have uninstalled all the old drivers and installed some older drivers I had.

Funny thing is that these corrupt drivers actually came from the ATI Website :eek7:

Only problem I have now is that it won't boot from the DVD if you do auto play when the DVD Is put in. I have to goto progs>EA Games>BF2.exe in order to play it

The drivers probably weren't corrupt you installed the ones with the catalyst control center i bet. They wont work unless you have the .Net framework installed. If the ones you have now installed work fine stick with them tbh as one or 2 people have issues with Cat 5.6 and BF2, although they work fine for me.

ok to tell if you have .NET installed go to windows update - www.windowsupdate.com

Select Custom

Select Software Optional

If there is one called something like 'Microsoft .Net Framework .... ' then you dont have it installed so -
* Select the check box to the left of it and click the review and install.
* Then press the Install Updates button on the summary screen

Tbh pass.

Suppose your only option is uninstall the Catalyst drivers and reinstall them. If that doesn't work go back to Cat 5.1 or your previous ones.

Or wouldnt that make it show the screen and crash out? for graphics would it load up and be all messed up or..? :/
