Have seen similiar threads for other consoles, so I hope this is not against the rules. If it is then just delete this thread!
Revisiting the Final Fantasy 8 Soundtrack has brought a lump to my throat, as I remember childhood years spent working my way through countless Japanese RPG's. Unfortunately I gave my sister my playstation 1 (which was chipped) so she could play Harvest Moon to her hearts content. I have a ps2, but its untouched with regards to modding. I don't know anybody that could fit a chip (my old Japanese mate has swanned off to University) so basically I'm wondering whether playing backup discs with a ps2 is now possible using some sort of boot disc, rather than having to solder a chip or something into the ps2? Alternatively, is there some type of "action replay" card device? I remember they were a popular way of doing it with the original psx, although I never tried it myself.
Summary - I want to mod my ps2 so I can play imported/back up ps1/ps2 games. Is this possible? I have a cd burner etc, so I can download files as necessary if some sort of player made boot disc is available.
