Playing in the States?

With the incredibly bad lag and all we're having in Europe, could anyone advise on how I can get signed up to play in the US PvP server?

I'm a complete technoblonde so step by step instructions would be nice, thanks

Have only got the GOA cope of the game, does that matter ?
