Dear Customer,

Due to a European shortage of the Nintendo Wii Consoles, we regret to inform you that Play.com will be unable to supply your pre-ordered Nintendo Wii at launch. As an Official distributor of Nintendo products we are guaranteed more stock before Christmas, but Nintendo have informed us, along with all other official Nintendo retailers, that the console will not be freely available until next year.

All pre-orders will be fulfilled on a first come, first served basis and we will fulfil your order as soon as we can.

If you no longer wish to keep your pre-order with Play.com please login to your account and remove the item from your Outstanding Orders.

Kind Regards

PLAY.COM

I pre-ordered on the day pre-orders started being taken. How many units were they allotted? 5?

Seems interesting what with Ninty saying they've produced more wii than they had originally intended.

Got the same email, as did a friend. :(

We're planning to take a tour of the supermarkets early on December 8th :p

The average allotment for the US is something like 48 per store (with a few receiving upwards of 200 units) and from what I gather, the European launch numbers was between 200k and 900k, a wide margin so pick a number, any number.

Ah well.

I wish that they would at least say where you are in the queue. Like I'm number 500, they've been given 400 and are expecting at least another 200 before Christmas. Would certainly help me to decided whether to cancel my pre order or not.

They took thousands of preorders before cutting it off, i've heard anywhere between 7000 and 16000, I ordered on the 18th (They had to go and announce the preorders the single weekend i had absolutely no net access didn't they, Bastages ) so there's not a sniff of getting one from them before christmas meself, know that much at least.

Bah.

Still, least Tesco et al didn't appear to do any preordering mojo so it's likely that they'll have some units (hopefully).

I've gone with my local (smallish) HMV. I am 21 on the list and they were confident that I will get one on release day.

That is fairly typical of all new console launches. Look at the 360 this time last year - 30,000 consoles for the whole of europe at launch and most of those ended up on ebay going for four times what they were worth lol

Entirely confident that I won't be having on at release now anyhow so just ordered from Woollies, what's a few weeks in the grand scheme of things anyhow...

The lass who served me basically went through the website, if i'd known that I could have done it meself from home, heh.

For anyone stuck, ebuyer appear to be getting some stock and started taking pre-orders yesterday http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/119345

Just done mine. Will see if I get one and then cancel my order with play.

If both come through on launch day then anyone who misses out here can have first dibs at the usual price, plaus whatever it costs me to deliver it.

Well this would be a shame, Nintendo's whole (apparent) mantra with the Wii was that you could simply walk into a store and buy one off the shelf, I know Woolworths isn't my first (or second) stop for games and/or consoles but for the average Joe it seems like a good place, usually has a sale or two on when you walk in and sells much more than just gaming mojo, good for hooking customers who are out to do some general shopping and spot this console that little billy's been going on about.

Oh well :(

We did the same with the 360. Why give every store x amount of consoles they may or may not sell, when you can simply let every store order one if they have a customer that wants one? I would bet only very small stores won't stock the console till availabilty picks up -but thats just my opinion.

Fair play, never noticed the move with the 360, largely because I didn't follow it as closely as this (being a fanboi is such hard work ^^). Obviously hasn't hurt in the past, not really much reason why it should now.
