d00d.....

You say you're on a 56k modem... headset is just gonna lag you to shit and back :(

As for the techie bit, I have no idea. Don't need a headset. I can just yell down the hallway to Buffy or upstairs to Killy if I need to know where people are :D

You want the HS1 like me :) it's the biggest one of the bunch but it makes up for it with the highst quality sound. Though the LS1 should work well too, and is smaller and cheaper

While we're talking about peripherals, can someone recommend me a good mouse?

I'm looking for something with a scrollwheel/mouse3, but i wouldn't mind one with a 4th button where your thumb is. I'm not sure how bothered i am by lazer cordless type ones, but i wouldn't be looking to spend more than 40/50 quid. Oh, and there have to be good Linux drivers for it(not sure wether any of manufacturers include multi-platform drivers, but i think people do make drivers for various lazer mice).

Might start a thread in the Hardware forum.

The SR1 sucks (I spent over an hour in PCW last week looking at all 3 models deciding which one to get) it's only one ear piece, so you'll have no idea which way the footsteps are coming from when playing and it's not really geared for gameplay :( I still have the HS1 pckaging here and it gives the full list of features on each - but it's 12.10am and I have a migraine so go look at the Plantronics site lol, sorry

and as for micies I'm not oo sure, I own a logitech optical Itouch mouse that costs £20ish and is great, a cordless I never use and a crappy weird micro mouse that came free with the laptop

yeah... i had an idea about that SR1, with one earpiece, so i might go check PCW and either get the HS1 which looks good or another one

Kornflake - dude the SR1 is gr8 for CS - if u mute the single speaker (just dont plug the jack in !) on the HSet and use your normal surround sound you get the best of both worlds.

The boom mic is the same, and it has made a massive difference to the clarity of my commands to my team (they all said big improvement - very clear voice)

So if u have good sound set up - just save your cash and get the SR1 - make sure you config it correctly (mute playback and tweak it)

My mates boom mic sounds like hes got it stuffed up his arse. I use the normal desktop mic I got with my sound card and apparantly I sound like a good quality telephone line.

Having a good sound card makes more difference than a good mic.

The problem with using speakers with the headset is the echo that occurs when communicating, though not unbareable, personally I'd rather pay more for a better quality - but who cares anymore, the lad's bought himself a HS1 now *reaches for another beer*
