Planetside Problem- Damn you 56k!

I bought Planetside today, happily seeing i could play on my 56k modem. Well I installed Planetside easily and started patching. Well after waiting 2 hours(!!!) to download the first file I thought I was past the worst of it. Yet there was another large file lurking...
The file "offlinetraining.pak" is simply too big to download before I am automatically disconnected after 2 hours spent downloading, and the file is around 70% downloaded.
So, to the point of my post. Has anyone got ANY sugestions as to what to do about this? If i could get the download into a place where I could continue downloading after i reconnect I would be fine, yet I cannot do this in the Planetside patcher.

Hope you can help!

Well, with the daoc patcher it would simply carry on after a disconnect - remember that patchers are looking for updated versions of files on the server you are patching from, so when you start the patcher up again it should start from where it left off as it shouldn't try and download the same updated files again. Hope this is the case, anyhow, as I'm on 56k and plan to buy PS in a few weeks :E

The file offline training.pak is 47.8 meg here... i can try and upload it for you but i think theres an easier way. And even so it may not be as simple as that.

Wow thanks for the speedy responses :) This patcher doesnt save the downloaded file if you disconnect midway through :(
47.8 meg :D no wonder I cant download it. I have a download manager but because Planetside does not go through my internet browser the download manager doesn't pick it up. If I could download it off a website then maybe my download manager could pick it up and I could restart the download. I hope there is an easier way.

you may have tried this, but I click on the Full Scan button at the bottom right of the launchpad. worked for me when my router died halfway through patching.

other than that....errr....pass :p

I think one of the only ways to get round this at the mo is to use a pay as you go ISP just to do the update.

if you're looking for a large Vanu outfit to join, Sovereign Guard are almost all ex-daoc/BW people.

Just let me know.

Hey just doing her job!

And we're quite a successful outfit, probably because of it. I joined SG because i knew them from DAOC when they had a brief time in the Crack Suicide Squad.

No, actually, we're at the moment constantly recruiting, and I'm sorry if this annoys you. I just like people to know that there is somewhere to go if they are looking for an outfit, because I've seen a couple of "oh I would have come to you if I'd have known" and I don't want that happening again.

Sorry if it upsets you.

Have you tried a download tool like GetRight? I don't know if you can configure it to work with the patcher, but it might.

I can't imagine that would work.
I doubt Sony will adress this issue as the 2 hour limit is not prevailent amongst all dial-up ISP's.
You may just have to suck it up and get a "pay as you go" Dial up sorted to just download the patches.

Hmm, just been through 35+ pages of the official PS forums tech support looking for the original post on this issue.

One guy had hosted the offlinetraining.pak on a resumable server, and I used getright to get it from there.

I've been told that not exiting the patcher, reconnecting & scan all will achieve the same effect, but unless this was changed recently it certainly did not work for me when I first got the game.
I lost 4 days from registering to being able to download the patch (a 48 meg chunk? go figure) and received nothing but automated responses from their tech support email... blugh.

So it was a player who helped us out. I cant find the link, but the post was at least 60+ replies long by the time I read it - maybe you'll have more luck finding it than me, otherwise I can try to dig it up when I get in from work.

Anyway, PS is damn fun so far, so I hope you get connected soon.

Get a friend to put patched files on a cd and copy new ones over old ones....worked for me....

Did that work? Using the Full-Scan?

It should be totally legal as the files are on a public server.

Besides, if SOE aren't gonna pick up the slack then someone should do their job for them. Took me about 7 hours to download all the files needed and I am on ADSL for god's sake. :/

The actual game plays fine on a 56k - even with a 2 hour disconnect ISP kick-out, when you log back in you're in the same place & in the same squad.
The game doesn't drop, just says you've left the world, meaning you can alt-tab, reconnect & alt-tab up agian :)

Actual gameplay seems fine too, although I made the decision to go sneaky-as stealther with comb eng, so I didn't get killed every time I lagged. It still runs well on a 56k, most times... just the odd lag patch, usually when respawning at a packed tower.

But why on earth they should a 48 meg file in a patch just seems silly to me, make it 2 at 25 meg a piece, that way, no-one is isolated...

Well i hope the problem is solved... Good old AoL free trials :D And if not the link you gave me will prove very useful indeed :great:

That Soverign Guard thing sounds good. I am ex-DAoC (well actually current DAoC, but it is becoming my 2nd game fast :D. Lvl 50 Merc in Guardians of Light :)) and I think I am steadily becoming a BW person. If all goes well I will log on at around 9:00 tonight under the alias Arto (same as my merc btw). The rest is very unpredictable indeed.
