It seems that SoE are following in the foot steps of Funcom's Anarchy-Online by offering a limited form of PS totally free for a year (Note Funcom also offer AO free for a year before extending it 'until further notice').

Subscription Free - "Fodder Program"
New Players will be able to create a new account and and play for free for a period of 12 months. The new account will have limitations on the BattleRank (+ or - BR8) and the CommandRank (+ or - CR2). Essentially, new players will be able to have access to any part of the game but they will be limited on the diversity of their arsenal. Time Frame – We are shooting for February 14th for Launch.

As a tip, try out Werner if you're in Europe, but if you find you're getting odd laggy problems, try out Emerald for a bit - for some reasons it varies with some nights Werners fine, some nights Emerald - even though it's over in the states - is waaay more reliable, quicker and less laggy...

I've been playing there just over a year now, VS on Werner (LittlestHobo & RalphWiggum, Immortal Serial Killers), HoboSmurf & Bootsie, NC on Emerald (ISK Death Dealin' Smurfs)
