I just started again, I aint played either since P2P, but its only £7 and BW subs has taught me a few lessons in paying for the services you require

I gave it up when Spinner et al started moving planets for concordium.

I played round two but got sick of it for two reasons

1) Being 'pwned' by large 'clans' and not being able to do anything about it.

2) People who play every day giving me shit for not playing everyday due to life getting in the way.

I only played once, they made me GC and I got really stressed out trying to defend our system. Made it my job to send everyone who attacked us a warning saying that we've rallied an assload of ships to defend, and if they want their fleet to survive then they better withdraw. Most of the time it was a bluff but it really worked well.

But I was spending hours and hours just watching for attacks during computer labs so decided to get out before it was too late

If it hadn't had so many reliability issues I might have stuck with it and paid for it, but once it moved off BW and things started to go icky I gave up.

I used to play in the beta stage, and the first round, but then I got a bit more of a life...

Mad game. I remember setting my alarm so I would wake up in the wee hours of the morning to send my fleet off somewhere knowing that by the time the deed was done they'd still be asleep and wouldn't be able to call for help.
