Haven't played it but so far I haven't seen a single person say it's great... most people say its fun at first but has nothing to keep you playing it.

Which kinda sounds like it sucks. :/

Nice game to play, one of those games you can play for a few hours, have some fun then put down. Instant action game, unlike many mmogs.

Not sure what kinda lastability it has, beta was a lot of fun and most beta players are still playing after the release.

Maybe best to wait and see how many buy it before comitting if your unsure, Euro server went up May 21st so after a few weeks it should be obvious how popular the game is gonna be.

I downloaded and played the beta of PlanetSide and compared to DAoC it certainly lacks depth.

The game has an amazing wow factor. Watching a Galaxy transport (player flown) take off and land at a hot zone guns blazing (from players manning the guns), troops (players) disembarking, and a tank rolling out of the back is truly amazing.
Or players stuck with tanks that are pinned down on a bridge call in air support and a bunch of Reaver aircraft come down at low level and attack the tanks, SAM missiles launch etc etc… everything controlled by players no npcs at all….

Which mean bases fall easily as they don’t have npc’s to slow down an attack, once bases have fallen you go to the next and then the next, thing is the enemy just takes the ones you left…, and it soon gets boring, to put it in DAoC terms, it’s equivalent to just taking (undefended even by NPC’s) and defending keeps but you don’t gain much for doing it (no Darkness Falls, or Relic Keep or Exp bonus incentives).

If you enjoyed CounterStrike, Tribes or Team Fortress then it’s probably right up your street. If you have a bunch of mates that can create a tight 10 man squad than I think the game could be quite enjoyable.

All just my opinions.

I haven't played it myself but it seems to be merely FPS action, Tribes style, no RPG at all... So it's not really good to compare it with daoc etc... It's instant action, very cool on lans etc :p

Only games i'm awaiting atm are horizons and wow ;) No more serious FPS for me anymore (i did however joined the barrysworld q3 league again with my old clan :p).

Its not really a FPS like q3 as its set in a persistent world with character advancement. But it is definately nothing like mmorpg's such as DAoC.

Fraid not m8, the servers are similar to DAoC as in they are 24/7 (patching time notwithstanding) and persistent.

Atm there are a few US servers and 1 Euro server, pings are pretty good on East Coast servers tho.

Yes i admit it lacks content atm, but you must remember when DaOC first started it had much less content then it does now.

No DF, Dartmoor and the dragon etc, less quests, no shrouded isles etc.

So its abit harsh to compare it to DaOC's standard now. And also its not trying to be an RPG, its about killing thats about as deep as it gets. And yes I will be buying it.

no real grind... and thats why it's more fun that daoc

and what depth does daoc have?

watch a greenbar move from left to right?
press a button 1 to 0 for some reactionary style, event, or spell?
kill stuff?

PS does the same as DaoC, but better ;)

It may lack depth but as has been said 100000000000 times so does everything else when it first releases.

The feel of the game is like nothing else you've played before.

All I can suggest is get the game, play the trial, get into a good outfit and a few good squads and see if you like it.

Don't take mine or anyone else's word for it :)

EDIT: Aule, you need to connect to the patch servers - it's bugged :(

Sam ur system specs looks like it would easy run PS, but im not sure ur modem is up for it, u might be ok for small battles like 30-50 people, but for anything bigger u probs will lag alot, but thats me going on hearsay from the devs.

Yes, DAOC may gave lacked depth when it was released, but it kept you playing for all this time didnt it.

Thats what this post is all about, can Planetside keep people hooked like this game did? IMO, no.

it'll depends how fun the combat is, i played starlancer multiplayer for a yeah and a half despite the fact it only had one decent multiplayer lvl and was pure dm simply because it was great fun

Being in any CTF, TFC or Tribes-like game or mod clan does the same as PS, but better. And for free.

monthly payments and it plays just like tribes but alittle better. All they will do it add map after map with a new back ground and call it content. I wouldnt waste your time with it you'll get bored after aday or to.

well... your wrong.

they're gonna add maps, but they'll be adding new weaponry and vehicles constantly aswell. the game could easily get boring unless they make sure it doesnt, with careful patching.

i aint bored of it tho, and i've had it for a day now :p
