Ive just bought this game, it's laggy, jerky, and the graphics arnt even very good.
Why's that ? Is anyone else having this problem ? I have a good pc with a adsl connection, yet its aweful. I tried increasing the swap file size as i ve read, but no difference, and ive gone down to 800-600, but still exactly the same.
Can this be sorted or is it like BF1942, where a sudden patch makes it suddenly playable ? Its my only hope atm, as I refuse to play it like this :/

Some seem to say it runs best on 1GB with 1GB VM, although I fail to see why it would run real bad on your setup. You fiddled with the different grphics settings I take it?

i guess i will, though tbh i just switched it off in disgust.
The last game I bought was Vietcong. Its actually quite good in MP, but there is no back up at all. The single player sucks tbh.
Now I buy this, it costs me 35 quid, I have to pay to use the server and it doesnt even run properly on a high end pc. I didnt wat to change the settings because frankly it dont look that good anyway. Did some one say no better than q3 ? I would think that was about right. So now Im going to turn it down so it looks like q2 in order to make it work ? Hmm dunno if Ill bother m8.
(an annoyed throd, sorry :) )

I have quite a high spec comp but i always turn the setting down. A game with lots of good looking graphics will lag badly in intense battles and base cappings.

This game really eats up RAM... uses up about 990 of my 1024mb of ram on my computer. Runs pretty smooth though.... just needs loads of ram apparently.

Go into graphics and turn off the textures on the advanced page. They all look very pretty, but you want a decent frame rate over anything else. Also try turning off the skydome (I think that's what it's called)

PS isnt the best programmed game around.

Its a resource hog and chugs along even on top end PCs. But, people like the game so they pay.

Graphics are actually quite good for a MMG - sure BF1942 and UT 2003 have the better graphics but you also don't have virtually hundreds of people playing at the same time.

Defragging helps alot, too.

Thanks for the advice all. Ive turned down the quality to low, even though it stuck in my throat, and kept the res at 800-600, and it actually runs pretty smoothly now :)
Perhaps I ought to buy myself that radion 9800pro Ive been looking at ...

I've got it running acceptably on a 1.4 gig GF3 at 1024*768, I'll go check what the settings are exactly later.

I only have 512mb RAM and it runs fine (well it doesn't work at all now but unrelated issue). Have paging file set from 1500 - 3000mb but I doubt it really helps that much.

I thought the graphics were really poor till I looked up at the sky. This game has a really pretty sky. And yeah the sanctuary looks really ugly and flat but when you get out into the fields I think it looks great.

I'd keep fiddling about with windows settings and things. You said you had a high end machine so no reason medium gfx settings shouldn't work fine.

turn down teh graphics settings. i've got a brand spanking new p4 2.8ghz gforce 4 ti4800, 512mb ram pc, and i lag to crap on highest spec graphics. have to have everything on medium.

I'm running it on a Duron 900 with a G-force 2mx 64mb with 640mb system memory and a 1.5 gb swapfile on a dsl connection.

I've got the res up at 1024x768 and the quality of the graphics down a bit and it runs fine.

No slow down at all. I did have a lock up once though, but that was during a really intense battle with at least 100-150 people on screen at once.

Well, it's a XP2600 / 512 ddr / GF4 4400 /adsl connection, so I'd call that reasonably high spec. Ive got it on 800-600 and low graphics, with textures on medium. Its seems to pretty smoothly now I must say, though its still irritating that I have to do that :/

It is irritating that you need such a high spec PC to run it properly, yes, but hey, you can still have fun with details and stuff turned down! I have a crappy graphics card (compared with most of you) and I manage just fine! Apart from constantly getting killed but I don't think that's got much to do with my graphics card :)

I think I proved with my post, you DON'T need a high spec machine to play PS.

It's just how you configure it.

The graphics card and RAM will make the most difference, both of yours are ok mung. Processors don't have the impact they used to :)

I said "properly" ie not having to turn the details and stuff down.

I never said you couldn't play it at all.

My machine is not particularly high spec either and I manage fine most of the time.

Right, challenge Planetside.
Lets see what the lowest possible spec you can have and still be able to play it.
My moneys on a 486 66dx with 1 gig of ram and a 32mb gfx card.

Well I have a 32mb gfx card and that does fine, so maybe drop the gfx a bit? (for lowest spec possible I mean)
