pings in ingame browser

hi, is the in-game quake 3 arena browser worth using, as I connected to a 475ping game, when in actual fact it was 750, it got listed when I got fragged.

You better use GameSpy 3D...more accurate and more servers to find...

When you ping a server there isn't much information being sent/recieved but since you just died its likely that a lot more information was being sent/recieved, thus your ping shot up.

Might I suggest connecting to servers pinging lower than that.
If your on a 56k modem in the UK you should get pings less than 200 if your not using 0800 dial up.

The ingame browser will always be lower than your ping in the game, as that ping is based on the tiny bit of data used to ping the server and not the huge amount of data being dealt with on the server for all the players connected.

I'm on aol at the moment, which I'm told is crap for games, will I get pings of 200 if I use barrydial?, or even freeserve or bt?

I seem to have major problems using Freeserve (both 0800 and 0845 dialup) so in the end I use Barrysworld and haven't had a problem.

Also I have a singlepoint/cnet 56kbps v.90 PCI internal modem

Does the modem make a difference, as mine only cost a tenner.?

i found them conexant 56kv90 modem rock with ping around 116 to 133 180 200 and they cheep as well

I use BT Anytime (because of free calls) and ping around 200. You will get lower pings and a more stable connection if you use BW Dialup, Jolt or Clara.Net though.

Bw dailup is definetly better, it got a ping of 375 compared to 575 at that time, better, but not by enough!

Strangely using bw dailup I could not get the ingame multiplayer browsers to find any servers?????????????
works through gamespy though
