I have a 600k BB caonnection and I have a really crappy ping. It is only BF1942 that O have this problem with, is there any options I can mess around with to try and help this?

Other than setting your connection in options, no.

pings

Not with pings but thats not a lot of mem for bf {or any other newish game] would explain if it appears laggy, are you downloading anything when you notice the high pings?

i have 512 adsl and my ping is always less than 30 these days m8.
You remembered to click save after changing to dsl ?
If it doesnt imporve i would suggest changing down a notch, to isdn levels or something.
When I had isdn I used the modem settings and it was much improved .

Throdders is right again, especially as the isdn setting is for 112k Yank isdn, not 64k UK one.

Also when you change the setting try succesfully joining a server using the ingame browser, rather than just save > exit, as for some reason just hitting save and exit doesn't always seem to work, but joining the game seems to stick the setting somehow *breathe*

Good luck anyway :)

I have tried Modem, Isdn, Ermm the 1 meg one and they all have shitty pings and its poo! :wall:

What am I doing wrong, here goes will tell you how Im doing it,

Not using ASE

1. Load up BF1942
2. Click on Multiplayer
3. Internet
4. Click on the Ping to sort by ping
5. Try with all the differnt connection settings --> Update

Using ASE
1. Load ASE and click on the left hand bar BF1942
2. Refresh Servers

Average ping for Load through BF = 110 - 200
Average Ping for Load through ASE = 90 - 200
? ? ?

Hmm I deffo need more RAM but will taht make a massive differance? I was on the {KEA} Server tonite playing CS and I had a ping of 5!! and average of 15 so why?

Have you tried running a tracert to a server?

I had massive problems with NTL about 3 months after I had cable installed - a few 'aggressive' e-mails later and the problem was sorted. Whether or not the e-mails did anything, is a different matter altogether - but it made me feel happy :D

Check the ntl website out, see if they're upgrading the equipment in your local area etc

How long have you been getting bad pings?

Hi all.
Just thought I'd add my 10 pence worth to this issue. BF1942 is the Mr Creosote of the ram memory world. When I first got the game it ran slower than Douglas Bader in a 3 legged race. I was using a 1.7 p4 chip at the time with 128m of ram. The pings were also in the several hundreds. Now I've changed chips to a XP 1700+ with 512m of ram and it runs like greased lightning with a v low ping. I'm not saying change your chip but the ram upgrade is a must. Hope this helps. Now where did i leave those damn spitfire keys...........

I have an AMD Athlon XP2200+ But like you say the ram is low, so I am gonna get some more ram anyway to tray and get XP a little faster and I shall report back with my findings.

Thanks all :)

Use a task manager.

If you using a OS that does not have a built in task manager.
Do a google search for Niresoft task manager.

Load up the task manager, then load up bf1942, window bf1942, with alt + tab, then open up niresoft task manager again.

Look up bf1942.exe, and right click it, and set the priority to low.

select bf1942 again, and join a server.
I did this, my pings went from 120, down to on average about;

25-50

Set the priority to low? Shouldn't you set the priority to high?

You might be able to fix the low virtual memory problem, and hopefully the resulting ping problem by doing the following:

Right click on my computer --> properties. Click the advanced tab, then the performance button. Click on the advanced tab.

There u should be able to see a virtual memory button.

With any luck, changing the virual memory management from user to system managed should fix the problem (providing you have the disk space).

This is going by WinXP, but there will be something similar for whatever ver of windows your running.

No, as that would make you're game very sluggish.

Trust me it works. it also fixes the dreaded 1000+ ping thingy.

Umm.. I remember reading somewhere about if you're having connection problems (lag, high ping etc) try changing the amount of channels used in the sound options in BF.
I personally have never had a problem, connection usually about 100-odd ping, sometimes as low as 80-90 (56k modem). Although I do have 512Mb RAM

At the mo after changing the priority thingy it seems to have sorted the ping thing out and is running at 20-50 average which im happy about, but still a bit sluggish and I'm putting that down to the shitty amount of memory I have.
