Right. some more coursework stuff. and i'm stuck yet again.

got to explain how, as we get further away from the sun, planets get colder.

e.g. mars is warmer than pluto because its further away. i know it involves the inverse square law but I'll be buggered if i can understand it.

any help would be appreciated so I dont get murdered by meh teacher

Think about it like this:

The sun pumps out a certain amount of energy in a certain amount of time. The further away you are, the larger the surface area of the sphere that this energy has to cover, and so the less energy an object of a certain size will receive. That's the basic premise of the inverse square law.

I thought it was caus the planets are father away they seem to have a smaller size there for will catch less sunrays then a closer planet there for having a colder temperture. :( but thats all I know, Cama come to the rescue

Just say that in the end all planets will disappear as all things tend towards entropy and the temperature will be the same as all matter will be evenly distributed.

As for why this is so now, then I think the Sphere analogy is a reasonable one. Plus space isnt empty of debris dust etc so energy will be lost heating that too. Physics teachers live in ideal systems, perfect vacuums etc..its a load of bollox really.

saw it may be a load of bollox but try getting through an entie curriculum taking into account every external force acting on any model you are considering and im sure it would take a bit too long no?

a) how temp of planet falls as further from sun

b) law of light intenisty

c) inverse square law

aiming to be 3/4 to 1 page of utter bollox
