Unfortunately there is no real replacement for 7110 at the moment. I also got mine for the big screen and the navi-roller(tm)(r)(all rights reserved), and no new models have them. The 7210 is a total joke, it appears to have been designed by a blind filipino 3 year old girl on acid, and about the only thing it has in common with the 7110 is it's a mobile phone.

Going to a different manufacturer isn't really worth it either - it just serves to highlight how far ahead in software design Nokia are (my Sony z7 is gathering dust, having been used for about 2 days - I pulled my new sim card out and stuck it into my old 7110).

Best bet is to wait for the 7250 (the phat one Recoil pasted), as it's got a nice big screen and a navi-button type thing. If you can't wait, try an 8310 - it doesn't have the screen or the roller, but it's the best of the current Nokias in terms of design and robustness (?), the screen is nice and clear (blue/grey is so much better than green, the only major flaw of the 7110), and you can get one free on contract.

I got my 8310 today and it's rather spiffy. The menus are a little more maze like than the 7110, but then the phone's got more options.
Having gotten the software on my 7110 upgraded just before this one arrived, I was able to sync my numbers with the 8310 in a matter of seconds. It kept all my caller groups and graphics.

The Nokia software on their webby isn't all THAT bad I suppose. Me and Damini made a few funny logos for the caller groups.
I've not really done all that much with the composer cos it's a bit wank, but I'm sure with a bit of practice I'll be banging them tunes out for j00z 411!!"!"121213221!!!2111

It syncs with pretty much all the standard organisation programs you can think of...lotus, outlook etc. It even outputs your contacts into CSV files to fart about with how you like.

The phone's got a reasonable level of intelligence too. I'm pretty happy with it so far.

Oooh and it vibrates when you play games on it. :)

unfortunately Nokia have stopped producing the 7110 and parts, so any replacements from orange will be at best reconditioned parts in new cases, best bet if you get any problems is actually to get club nokia membership and bitch0r at them if any problems occur...

it's a pity cos the 7110 was a cool phone (looked for another myself recently) but my 7210 is on it's way so i guess I'll get over it ;)

LOL

weighing twice as much as a T68 (and nearly twice as thick too) the 7650 is the BRICK of the small stylee nokias...

besides which the menus are bugged to f*ck, they're slightly dodgier than the communicator (hard to imagine imo)

the ericsson P800 however is everything the 7650 tries to be with full PDA functionality with a better CCD camera... :)

hmm, i disagree - the 7210 is sweet... they got rid of that atrocious data port in the bottom in favour of the new (and rather spinky pop port) the screen itself is pukka and the polyphonic ringtones are sweet... the handset has some neat games plus a really quick GPRS implementation... it has all of the features of the 8310 (without the truckload of bugs in the current 8310 firmwares)

Going to a different manufacturer isn't really worth it either - it just serves to highlight how far ahead in software design Nokia are (my Sony z7 is gathering dust, having been used for about 2 days - I pulled my new sim card out and stuck it into my old 7110).

agreed the Z7 sucks ass, i got one when i got a new contract (heh, already had a T68 and didnt want a second) but a day or so later my girlfriend nabbed it and she loves the thing...if nothing else it does have a nice jog-dial and large screen so I guess ppl who wanted a large screen and thumb wheel of the 7110 have at least one option if they can't source the vastly superior nokia option ;)

heh, i take it you meant the 7650 - the 7250 is the voicestream(american branded) version of the 7210 with CDMA support... heh...

as to the 8310 they've got to be the flakiest consumer handset since the 8210 (which was bugged with massive screen issues and has just been totally recalled by the carphone warehouse)... there is only one firmware out there for the 8310 that cures the rather annoying 'resetting bug' (the phone regularly resets itself when it's signal sits below 10% for more than 3 minutes or something) and that one ''working'' firmware apparently nukes the newest contact in the phone memory if the power fails in the device (not to mention it's terrible wap browser)...

diversification in the market is leading to whole new families of handset and as such the manufacturers are having a real problem getting everything out the door in a decent state. One of the worst examples is the T68 which has been available for over 9 months now yet still hasn't had it's predictive text problems properly addressed nor has the MMS firmware that was promised in week 5 of this year appeared...

it's generally safer to buy a generation 'back' from the ''cutting edge'' if you want your phone for work related purposes, fixed firmwares that will address most of the 'release bugs' take up to 6 months to appear and there is generally a long waiting list of consumers who all want their £300+ phones fixed "NOW DAMNIT". If you want a real workhorse then a triband like the T39 is acknowledged to be one of the best choices available on all four networks, if GSM1900 isn't important to you (i.e. you don't goto the states) but you're a data user (hscsd or gprs) then the T39 is still a good choice...

Heh, well I'm sure this discussion is going to go on and on.... anyone else got any suggestions?
