Phone Hellp...

My poor old Nokia 7110 is on the way out. Lovely old phone, but knackered.

So I went into the local O² (ex cellnet) shop to ask about a replacement & of course they stopped making it ages ago (which I knew) but the 6210 or the new 6310 are the direct replacements for it - allegedly.

Me: So, this is basically the same as my current phone is it?

FW Asst: Yes, only without the unreliable sliding door & thumbwheel.

Me: I really like the door & wheel, they're what I chose the 7110 for. That & the large screen & memory - oh look, the display is smaller on this new one, too.

FW Asst: Um...

Me: And it says here that it only has a 500 number memory, mine's got 1000.

FW Asst: Um... Sharon? You've got a 6310, how many numbers has it got?

Sharon: Um... 250, I think.

Me: So this 6210 isn't much of a replacement, is it?

FW Asst: Um...

Me: Do you have anything else?

FW Asst: Um...

Me: How about a communicator? (looks at 9210) Do you have the 9210i? (Faster version)

FW Asst: Um...no.

Me: Goodbye.

So, anyone here have any views on a good mobile? I'd like a Nokia if poss, large screen, large memory, robust, decent reception, WAP NOT required! Built-in modem is.

if you can wait a little while I'd go for the 7210 which is a more worthy replacement for your 7110... while you're at it get some skillz and move to Orange....

the 7210 has got tons over the 6210/6310 plus a high res colour screen, polyphonic ring tones and GPRS to make that mobile data malarkey less laboured... w00t :)

Hmmm...

Looks cute - maybe too cute? But has a built-in radio.

Have to pay extra for black, though.

I should have mentioned that I wanted a cover for the keys as well, sliding or flapping. Yes, I know they're mechanically unreliable, mine broke 9 months ago, but they're important in my line of work. Maybe I should look further than Nokia...?

What I'd really like is a GPRS version of the Communicator, but I don't think they're doing one of those for a while yet...

only two phones worth looking at are the T68 and T39 then

T68 has a nice colour screen but no keycover - it does have a timed keyguard tho

and the T39 has a flip but tidgy screen

oh, and you DON'T want a 9210 or 9210i, they're bugged to fuck and to be subtle they're utter shite

you could always wait for the P800 (colour gprs version of the R380) but that's a while off yet...

I've had a 7110e for 9 months now, and the flip is still working as it did on day one with a nice satisfying SCHLOCK. What's more, if it does break, I can get it replaced under Orange insurance :)

I've got a 8850 - tasty phone. I'll be upgrading to a Communicator when they bring out one with GPRS

Just get another 7110 from eBay.

I got mine from there last er, july? It still works, it still Schlocks, Its even stopped giving me jip about the sim card since I got a non-genie one.*

My genie one required bits of rizla card in the back to make it work, go figure.

Originally got one from a small mobile phone store in Stone. However the flip on that one never worked properly so I sent it back to Orange and they sent me this lovely schlocky one.

Still using my Siemens C25 :p In lovely Orange Bright Blue colouring.

Bloody hate the thing. I have it turned off all the time - mostly. I just don't like people expecting me on demand.

And SMS is fucking lame. (In the wise words of The Super Furry Animals: Text Messaging is Killing the Pub Quiz As We Know It.)

my 7110 doesn't *schlock* fully so it keeps triggering the "Lock Keypad" option on screen.

I had a look at the 6210 but I really prefer the 7110's SMS folder stylee

I also want the 7210 but seing as I used this phone only... 6 times last year its not really worth it

Mine vibrates - well, it's more of a "m00" actually, so much for silent mode...

A mobile is essential for my job - as a freelancer I need to be contactable wherever & whenever, also SMS is a vital tool. In fact, the whole phone is a tool, not a fashion accessory or penis extension as so many are being sold as these days. It needs to be robust, functional, loud, clear, with good signal strength. all else is gloss - although decent games would help on long train journeys.;)

Thx for all your suggestions, that 7650 looks good but a bit fussy, I think I might go for the eBay option & wait & see what comes out in the next few months...
