Exactly as the title says. Fucking phone companies! The misses and I moved into a new place on the 20th October. Now the previous tenants, our landlords were with Pipex. They moved out on the 1st October and called Pipex to cancel everything before they left. I had set it up for BT to take over the line on the 20th but nothing happened. So after 4-5 calles between BT and Pipex I was told that Pipex hadn't put a stop on the line and BT couldn't take it over until they did. Pipex told me that they wouldn't do that unless the account holder called them. I tried explaining that the account holder already calle and asked them to do it and that they've moved to Thailand but no. So I had to go round a mates to use their internet to email him and get him to phone Pipex, who have now confirmed that everything has been stopped and cancelled.

So I call BT to let them know and they said they'd try to put it through straight away and it would be connected within 24 hours. Like fuckery was it. I called them AGAIN and was told that there was a problem with the order and they would have to cancel it and start a new one. As you can imagine I was properly pissed off at this point but I said OK. Then the idiotic bint on the phone tried to connect me to a different department and cut me off! Cue me shouting, swearing (and if it had been my phone, throwing it across the room)

I didn't have a chance to go round my mates and call them again for a week because of work. Now I've got the order sorted, BT have confirmed that they can take over the line and it'll be connected (Not garanteed) on the 11th november. So instead of having a phone line and being well on the way to have proper broadband I have to make do with a piss poor, woefully slow prepay mobile dongle.

I hate phone companies.

Ask the solicitor that did the house buy/tenancy contracts to write to Pipex, stating you are the new owner with copies of deeds etc. instruct them to cancel the line immediately.

I work for a phonecompany and are on the receving end on stuff like this alittle too often then i like to. It always comes down to stupid human errors... someone having a bad day or rookie on the job, sometimes misunderstandings or stupidity. Very often (not saying it is in your case) the tennant moving out of the adress forgets/ignore to cancel their connection.

One thing is true though, it never helps shouting at the person you are talking to on the phonecompany, we just get sad and ignore you (hiding behind anonymity). We are embarased enough as it is due to stupid mistakes from our part and we know that you are the one suffering the most and often we cant do much to help you except put down another order or file a report to a technician.

When you do get your connection phone BT and demand a compensation or a good discount on the monthly fee. Most phonecompanies are quite generous when they know they fucked up.

Be annoyed, be angry, be calm and friendly and you'll get the best service :)

Yeah I'm always polite to the people I speak to on the phone because usually it's not their fault and being in the public sector I get my fair share of people yelling at me for something that isn't my fault. I still let the anger be heard in my voice though =P

This happened to me.

Phone up BT, ask to be put through to the complaint department. Tell them that the line doesn't work (it doesn't as you can't get broadband on it) and ask them to sort it. You should never have to phone Pipex. If you are paying BT the line rental then it is your line and any problems with it need to be sorted by BT. If at any point they tell you to phone up a 3rd party tell them they should do it. Be persistent and eventually BT will find the person that can help you.

Not only is it true that in Finland every citizen has to have access to an internet by law, if they so wish, but they are also abolishing phone lines and mobile phones are added to the list of rights

Just wanted to ay that...move here :p

Otherwise the old "Keep cool when dealing with companies" works, prepare to get this kind of thing happen(as in; calculate delays etc into the thing you're doing) and it'll go a lot smoother for your bloodpressure.
