Hi,
I created this petition to ask lucasarts to start again making adventure games based on scumm interface like sam and max, day of the tentacle, indy 4 and more. Personally, I don't like the 3d graphics more than the 2d of 10 years ago, and I know many people that think the same. Now I ask to everyone interested to sign the petition to make it bigger and important to lucasarts' eyes. Moreover, since I'm Italian and I don't know many english gaming forums or other important sites, newsgroups on usenet. I'd like if someone could write a post somewhere advertising that petition, because I'm sure there is a lot of people interested in signing it. Thanks a lot, bye

They won't do it because the mass market isn't interested and so it isn't commercially viable. How the hell you can promise "100% people would buy them" (or even what that means) is beyond me. With Sam & Max 2 round the corner some could argue that they're already making an effort to hark back to the 'golden era' of adventure games.

I hate these petitions. :(

One thing to bear in mind:

While Lucasarts' graphic adventures now use a 3D engine, it's not really the most advanced engine ever (can you say 640x480, kids?) So you can't really accuse them of putting graphics over gameplay, because from what I've heard, they're still funny.

Do you honestly think that by throwing away 3D graphics and going back to 2D, Lucasarts' games will magically become screamingly funny? I beg to differ.

well,
thanks to everyone that is signing and advertising the petition. As always in life, everyone has got his opinion. The only thing to remember is to respect others' ideas and express the personal one. I'm not the only one that thinks what I wrote in the petition, as those 2 sites for example can witness:

www.zak2project.de
www.indyproject.de (well here the homepage just redirects to the board because the site is currently down)

anyway, I just wait the ending of the petition, to see if my idea is correct. Bye :)

Petition Online petitions are the biggest waste of time. I don't think I've ever seen one that's ever had any effect on anything ever, other than being a gathering place for retards.

Exactly. For example, Microshite arnt gonna make a fully stable OS 'just cos i want one'. They are gonna keep giving us ones that need all kinds of addes software that we have to buy to make it run propley. So clearly, if they did make one then we wouldnt need to buy more software and they would lose out on alot of money

Now that's just stupid. How do MS make money by releasing an apparently unstable OS? If anything they have to spend money on researching and developing patches.

Now come on...

Anyway, MS bashing is dull and fruitless. Let's stay on-topic, which also happens to be dull and fruitless.

Much like my loins.

Flaming me is also fruitless and saying this topic is fruitless is also fruitless

<offtopic>

my stomach is also fruitless..

Considering the argument is that developers spend more time on graphics than on gameplay, thus making the gameplay pants you would have thought grim fandango would have been pants. It wasn't 3D but the graphics impressed me...

just wait for them to stumble upon an original idea and *hopefully* one of these days a funny yet alarming addictive game will saunter into our midst. or to put it another way going back to shitty graphics wouldn't really ensure an original concept would it? besides morrowind, albiet not funny is amazingly addictive and I worry about how me and my friends talk about it the pub "I'm stuck in bal fel looking for the bloody mages ring! I can't find it anywhere!!" or "I spend most of my time on my estate looking after my egg-mine".

the non-morrowind friends look on in mild amusment. :D

Reminds of one point. Yes, PetitionOnline is a waste if time, but I discovered a few months back that the government will now accept online petitions. You need to provide a valid address as with all 'proper' petitions for it to be considered. I think it's something that would have to be self coded (but would be a worthwhile Open Source project)

Just a side note.

On topic. I do miss point and click games, I loved Discworld.

The only problem with the 3D Grim Famdango was the amount of time you took to move around and a few irritations about spotting objects. It would have been nice to use 3D environments while retaining Point & Click. Maybe the two methods could be combined to restore the best bits of both (rather than the worst of both, naturally).

Hello everyone,
as you can see 30 people signed the petition in less than 24 hours, and the number is going to increase. It looks like that what I wrote is not that stupid dull and fruitless whatever-it-means-to-my-troubled-english :D .... the petition will go on until the 31st december 2002, so i hope at least to reach 1000 signatures... bye

Wow, a possible 1000 customers to buy this product...

That wouldn't cover the cost of the Coffee machine in their office
