He was the british "It's that guy..." actor.
You've seen him in lots of films and TV but never quite remembered his name.

Good for him that he managed to get into one last major film before he died (Inception), even though you could tell he was ill.

I loved him, always reminded me of an old Eddie Vedder. He always seemed to have a cough in films though.

Just watched The Town with him in it, he was great in that as he always was in his stuff.

Aye he was, that character was one of most dispicable you will ever see on film and Pete Postlethwaite made it all happen. Bernard Cornwell said he didn't think anyone else could have ever done that character justice but not only that he made him better than the writer imagined him.

One of his more notable roles was as antagonist Sergeant Obadiah Hakeswill in ITV's Sharpe series, which starred Sean Bean. Postlethwaite has said that this was one of his favorite roles and that he and Sean played so well off each other because of their mutual love and respect for each other. Bernard Cornwell, the author and creator of the Sharpe series, specifically wrote Hakeswill's character in later novels to reflect Postlewaite's performance as the character in the TV series. Postlethwaite also co-starred with Sean Bean in When Saturday Comes.

Says it all really, he changed the character in the later books to be more like PP played him because he just did it better.

Voted Danny. Hard to choose though, he was an actor that you could always rely on for a sparkling character role. His name on the poster would be enough to get me into the cinema, and I wouldn't say that about too many actors.

I always thought it as funny that Terry Pratchett has said that when he Imagined the character of Sam Vimes, Pete Postlewaite is always what he imagined him looking like.

Absolutely brilliant in Sharpe. Very good as Kobayashi.

I'm going for Gilbert in Dragonheart though. Purely because although I love my cheesy fantasy and so still like the film, it shows the quality of an actor to be better than all of the rest of the cast put together. Surely it must be easy for an actor just to be dragged down to the level of all of those around you, but he doesn't in this. True talent for an actor that is imo.
