Persistant Worlds

Hi,

Just had a thought, you see a fair few games companies making ongoing massivily multiplay worlds, a lot of em cant cope with the amount of users trying to join, what i reckon is that all the big companies, like origin (UO) and others all band together to make a massive world, all linked into one, if they did that the options would be endless.

the scenario could be from any era but i would bet most people would like to see a world based on this current time, starting a normal life and working from there.

The possibilities of this is amazing, there would be so many routes that people could take. (yep even them aswell), There would be so much support from the combined companies that it cannot fail, they would have financial backup from each other, plenty of server space, and im sure plenty of users, think about it, it can be done.

companies must realise that the more SEPERATE games they make the more people must pick to STICK to a game, hence smaller companies not gaining much player support, now if they all formed together then the amount of interest/people that would join that game would be massive, there would be no more people trying to pick (oooh what MMG is best for me) there would be just 1 that all people went into.

There would no doubt be huge support from the players, the websites, the promotion from shops etc. Think about it

would you rather play one HUGE world where loads and loadsa people would play or pick one where it may or may not get big....

What ya reckon

good or bad ??

ok, yes I agree to an extent.

Although you ever heard of something called the monopolies commision (I think that's right), you know when 90% of developers got together to make these games, they would probably leave out some poor bastard company like say Eidos and basically then how much of an impact would Eidos make if everyone was addicted to this one game. None whatsoever. While it might be nice to have soo many players. It's nice to have variety and to be able to chose where you play, who you play with and what type of game you play!

Nearly. Its the Monopolies And Mergers Commision.
The other thing is that if they did join up, then there would be no compitition, cos there would only be one and it may not be to everyone's taste then would break apart.
Look at 10 years ago. Who ruled supreme? BT.
There was nobody else.
Now we have a large degree of freedom, such as Telewest, Localtel, NTL etc
This has been 100% good for us net users and ordinarry phone companies.
What is they all got together and agreed to form "UK Teleco" or something like thatm saying it would be better for all?
It wouldnt work.
And neither would it work if all the MMRPG's were merged.

Once side have Boosters and stuff, but the other side have 1-shot-kills railguns... might be a laugh.
