Performance Boost

Just thought I'd share some tweaking I've been doing over the last week or two.

My Game rig (PIV 2.6, ti4600, 512 Mb PC2700, Detonator 41.09, Win2K) should piss BF1942 at high rez. However, whenever I went to 1280x960 I would get the dreaded warping effect. FPS would be fine, but it was pure jerko-vision, especially on the larger maps. I spent ages buggering around with a variety of tweak tools, and various video settings, all to no avail. Then I loaded up aTuner ( http://www.3dcenter.de/atuner/ ).

With this loaded, there is a button ''Direct 3D Extra Panel", and a section a the bottom 'D3D Pending Frames Limit'. If you set this to max, your 3DMark score will rise (mine about 10%). However, BF1942 performance will go pants. Set it to nil, and you will lose some 3DMarks, but BF1942 is smooth as anything. (Default on first setup is set to 4.)

I can now run at 1280x960 with 4xAA, and it looks the mutts nuts, and runs like a very smooth thing, even on El Alamein.

Sure it won't help everyone, but worth a try, even for a bit of a performance boost.

do you need the app running whilst playing games or does it modify stuff?

Modifies the settings in real-time, so make the changes and then shut aTuner down.

By the sounds of it, didn't make any difference for you Panda ?

Jon doesn't play bf42, he was just worried about performance on the desktop.
