Yup ex girlfriend of mine had a family like that, it's some kind of mental illness, the total inability to throw anything away.
Perfectly nice people, but the house was insane, everything they had ever owned was piled in boxes round the house, the garage was filled to the roof and I mean to the roof, if you looked through the side window it was like they had taken the roof off and poured in a whole scrapyard of car parts, if you had opened the lift up door (which hadnt been opened for 10 yrs) it would have killed you.
