Well yeh, they'd be ambling around a runway with planes moving on it. Hence the being arrested.

Very stupid news story angle. I empathise with the creeping claustrophobia the passengers must be suffering but I think this is hysteria where it isn't warranted, which these days is pretty standard for news services.

What I don't understand is why they don't offload them, the terminal is bloody empty and catering for a few hundred people is alot easier out there than inside a plane with the doors closed and shitty airconditioning on.

Because if they don't, they're not insured. Turn up, and if the flight is cancelled, they'll put on another, don't turn up and you might get another flight,but you might not. People are rarely told to stay away from the airport; they're usually told "check with your airline" and then when they do they're given a load of weasel-words bullshit that leaves them with no clue about what's going on, and end up not taking any chances by going to the airport anyway.
