I recently read an article saying that the next AMD processor the Hammer has been delayed until september and that this will benefit the competition i.e. Intel. So anyone with a release date or news on the next Pentium please post here.....

Prescott, an improved version of the current P4 is due before Hammer now, yes... but it's still a Pentium 4

Tejas, a 'prescott with IA-64 support' is due early '04 - also roadmapped to be under the P4 monicker.

don't forget Nehalem, the 65nm part scheduled for late '04, early '05 - said to be a total redesign, yet also of P4 branding...

the marketing bunnies at Intel are probably scared of suggesting they start using the tautologous name 'Pentium 5' ;)

define a standard bus?

it's going to begin at 800Mhz, but then the current P4's will have an 800Mhz bus as of April.

Tejas will have IA-64? Any link to back that up Xav? I'm interested. There was an artical linked by the ZDNet newsletter about Intels roadmap, but I don't remember it mentioning anytihng about IA-61 becoming a "consumer" chip anytime soon? The only thing of note with Tejas that I saw was that it was going to be running over 4Ghz and was a waffle (rather than pins). I'll try and find the link at some point.

well, that was certainly what Intel hinted at heavily when I was at IDF in San Jose a couple of weeks back, we were talking about AMDs move to take 64-bit into the consumer space, and the basic theme of what came back was 'wait for Tejas' - I believe a few MS documents have leaked too which link Tejas support into Longhorn/XP-64...
