PCI IDE Adaptors

Thinking of getting a Promise TX2 ULTRA 100 x4 IDE Controller PCI to allow me to put my backup unit/extra hard drives/CD-ROM etc on separate channels and add a few bits.

Does anybody have one of these cards? Anybody have a similar on? Are they okay? Any bad experiences?

Not sure why I'm posting, really.

I had a Promise RAID card once. It worked quite well all things considered :)
Be aware windows will not install unless you have the correct drivers available on floppy to add when the system asks for them.

I have that TX2 card with 4 IBM 40GB drives on it (not raided) but software spanned in win2k. Solid fucking card, can't fault it. (man, jinxed myself there, bet it catches fire tonight)

And TDC is spot on as usual, you'll need exactly correct SCSI/Raid drivers for win2k on a floppy, or you won't be able to install off it.

Just install 2k off your usual IDE channels, then switch it over after the installation is done

Excellent. Thanks, guys. Just what I wanted to hear.

I'll not be booting off them (at least for now) but worth knowing.

That driver problem mentioned above also relates to XP as well and you'll find that the W2K drivers will work fine.

I have a Promise FastTrack controller onboard using RAID and its solid.
