PC World... :/

Not entirely the right forum, but I'm at me wits end here.

Right, I bought one of those fancy executive desk chairs from pc world a year and a half ago. Now one of the arms is broken. The arms attach the back of the chair to the base, so they're fairly important. My attempts at gluegunning the break together and bracing it with bits of wood have been temporarily successful at best. So I thought I'd go about getting a replacement.

Due to my dads recent successes in getting obscure parts replaced for fridges and washing machines by calling the manufacturer, I thought I'd try the same. So off I go to pc world. They still sell the same model of chair "super" I think "I'm in with a chance". Talk to some fucking annoying stupidly unhelpful person who simply says "sorry can't help". And after I constantly push for something to happen, she gives me some phone number.

To cut an increasingly long and boring story short(er), I got given the run around, and ended up e-mailing PC world general support who said "try calling the manufacturer". "THATS WHAT I'VE BEEN TRYING TO DO" I reply, so they say "sorry, dunno".

The chair was branded as PC Line, and I can't find anything about them online. I think they're a PC World only brand, and buy stuff from various manufacturers and stick their label on it, but no one seems to be able to find any details about this.

I very much doubt any of you will be able to help, but if anyone has *any* idea, I'd much appreciate it. I don't really wanna spend another £130 on a chair when it's just a plastic arm worth £5 ish that has broken.

The chair is a PC Line Lucca Executive Chair.

Cheers in advance.

edit: god damn that was really overly long. Sorry :/

methinks you *may* be able to sort it yourself with two small strips of perspex, a paintstripper heat gun and about a yard of duct tape.

bend the strips into proper shape with the heat gun, glue to the arm, then wrap securely with the tape. hows that grab you? naturally, if I'm being silly feel free to slag me off :)

My dad has plans of getting a metal plate thing and screwing it on to the side along the break.

That has yet to be tried, and I fear it will result in tears, and perhaps amputated fingers. I just want a replacement, I'm sure it wouldn't be hard if I could find out who makes them :/

Hi nath

Have you tried Partmaster.co.uk? I'm not sure whether they'd be able to sort you out, but I think they're probably your best bet (if their website doesn't yield anything, perhaps it would be worth calling them).

Kind Regards

Jup :/

Jonty, nice work, dunno where you got that from but it's actually one of the companies pc world chucked me to. They only seem to deal with chairs priced up to 70 quid. At least that's what they said on the phone, gunna have a look on the site now.

I'm all for the duck tape...

3rd most useful thing in the world, don't you know...

Problem is, it's not strong enough. The arm actually holds the back panel of the chair to the base. The other arm is ok, but this arm is snapped through, so duck tape just won't hold it at all |:

Duct.....

but yes, it is fantastic stuff.

Actually it's both.

Duck tape is a brand of duct tape, hence just as valid.

Go to a second hand office furniture warehouse. I bought some £300 quid executive chairs for £30 each in fairly mint nick. Regular deskjockey chairs £10. Or go to an auction.

I'll jump off that bridge if/when I come to it. I really don't wanna give up home on a 130 quid chair when a 10quid (absolute MAX) part goes wrong, tbh.

Went to the second hand office place not so long ago in Swansea.

I couldn't stay in there for more then 10 minutes, the smell from the place was unbelievable. Never seen so many grotty chairs in my whole life.

I can confirm PC line is a branch of PC World, however thats only due to shopping around on Google, and finding
http://www.computeractive.co.uk/Features/1137541
However, I've seen a lot of their peripherals and consumables around : fucked if i can find a site though.

Maybe it will be worth contacting "The Dixons Group" directly : if they are a part of PC world I assume they are also part of the above, despite finding no mention on the site.
