Well my gfx card has been on the blink for a while, and it turns out that upgrading is only slightly more expensive than trying to find another agp card for my ageing setup.

So I've ordered this, I know its perhaps a bit late, but could anybody tell me if they see any problems with this:

Asus A8V-VM SE Socket 939 VIA KM890 VGA AUDIO mATX
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Socket 939 512Kb Cache OEM Processor
Speeze COPPERREEF K8 Socket 754 / 940 / 939 Cooling kit
Inno3D GeForce 7600GT 256MB TV Out DVI Core 560MHz Memory 700MHz PCI-E

If you can settle playing games on low settings all the time... new games that is.

Got about the same on one PC here Tilda, can run two daoc accounts and stick them simultaneously with ease. Just make sure that you have 2 GIG of ram.

Well you've ordered it already so any advice is a bit redundant now but it looks like a reasonably solid system for a budget. I use a 7600GT and it's a good video card for the money. The only thing I'd say is that the difference in price between the AMD 3000 and a 3200 or 3400 isn't that great, you may as well have dropped the extra few quid for a faster processor. I'd also echo what Congax said. Cram as much ram as it will take in there. I have 1.5GB in mine which is fine for now. 2GB will help a lot though with next gen games.

s939 just to be able to use your old-DDR sticks? Silly plan unless you had 2Gb really :S

That set will do fine if you were looking for a "set that will do fine" :p

The aim wasn't to make an uber uber setup, but one that will run better than my current PC< and for cheapness.
I can't afford to spend money on gfx card, mobo, proc, and then another £80 on ram, when I can reuse the gig I have atm, I simply dont have the money.
In 4 years time I'll be earning decent amounts and will be able to afford more, but atm, I can't afford shit. And so this was the cheapest i could come up with, that would still run decently.

Any idea how fast your old sticks are btw? I guess that with XP2400+ we are talking about DDR333? To get everything out of A64 you need DDR400 :S

I can play Tetris in max settings on a lousy PC.

He did say new games ;) (for example; crysis.)

i recommend a socket 940 mobo and a x2 cpu and 2gig ddr2 ram along with a radeon x1950 pro

Its sounds like teh costly, but its actually quite cheap components.. like 500£ or so..

Doubt thats an option really.

He's a student (Afaik??) so doesn't have that much to chuck at a pc for games.

Tilda, that setup will run perfectly alright dude, its not too bad tbh.

My budget was 150 so this is just over budget, I could just justify gfx card, proc and mobo because my gfx card has been funny the last month or so.
It wasn't supposed to be a stupidly powerful setup, just something thats better than what I have at the moment, and fairly cheep.

s940 :eek7: That's probably the worst option one can go for (AM2 if one really wants AMD :p).

Pentium 4 630/631 (3Ghz, s775 ~60€), 1Gb of DDR2 (800mhz, ~60€) and cheap s775 motherboard (asrock etc, ~50€) would have been so much better option (easy to upgrade to make it a real beast and stuff - s939 is good as dead really) :p No idea which gfx-card would serve you best with that budget but 7600GT for ~100€ seems ok (1950pro costs ~160€).

(edit: 150£ = 225€, 60€ + 60€ + 50€ + 100€ = 270€ = 179£)

XP2400+, motherboard and 1Gb of memory is actually awesome upgrade kit for a student with a shitty PC, might be harder to sell without DDR-sticks.
