Whats peoples thoughts on PauL Burrels forthcoming book about Princess Di. Some have called it a betrayal of the Royal Family. Some have said he is just cashing in. He just says it's his own account etc.

I feel its just somebody cashing on somebody else's misfortune.

He sold the serialisation to "The Mirror".

That just about sums it up.

I couldn't give a shit in all honesty. If he is betraying her then he is just another man on the list as far as i'm concerned. Worse things have happened and personally I think it'll take a lot to top the James Hewitt love letters fiasco. That man truly is a grade one cock.

I don't think hes betraying the Royal Family as such, hes betraying an institution, but they have no right to complain, they didn't exactly make Di's life easy now did they?

I hope he milks it for all hes worth, he didn't steal those items from the palace, and they didn't support him at any stage. Also, the Princes are men now, not children, so I wish people would stop using them as pawns in this.

It was more to do with if he was betraying the royal family and peoples opinions of it rather than the contents of the publication.

Does this mean anything posted about the Return of the King should be posted in books as opposed to the movie forum.

Chill out Lazarus

tbh (speaking for myself) I have no interest what happens to the Royal Family.

To me, there are other people out there who have been "exploited" in some way by the media and have absolutely no comback.

I think its time to see the "real" things that happen in the royal household.

Agreed. Considering the ammount of money the Roayl Family get from the people of the UK it is about time some of the more seedy items come out

I find it entertaining to read that the palace has 'demanded' a copy, have 'requested' a meeting with Burrel, etc.

It's almost as if they think they are still relevant in this day and age.

I couldn't really give a shit either. I didn't care that she died, I couldn't careless if it was a conspiracy, and I certainly dont give a damn about some butler selling some story. As far as I'm concerned they're all a bunch of useless twats (including the Royal Family), and should be taken out and shot.

In my humble and, no doubt, minority opinion, Princess Diana was a woman who knew how to use the media to her own ends.

She was quite happy to have books published about her while she was alive. I dont see that anyone should have cause to complain now shes dead.

Paul Burrel is an asshole, yes, but then, more power to him for getting the job as her butler in the first place. What a peach of a job eh? He must have known the lifelong money making potential was there when he took it on, AND so did she.

The thing is, with publicity, if you court it, as she did, you'll get all or nothing. You take the rough with the smooth.

So, let the Diana bandwagon roll on. As long as there are suckers to buy this crap, there'll be cash to be made.

tbh, all we hear now adays about the royal family is how "some old bag dies [queen mum]", some shite about princess diana, the princes out smoking canibiss etc etc, who the fuck cares?

No you, but as has been said, there's plenty enough people to fund the Diana industry, and so it will continue. You don't have to read it, neither do it. I wish they wouldn't clog the news up with a family squabble, but it'll pass.

Further to the argument that Diana was bonkers and a poor judge of "friends", look at the stream of people she confided in who were all too willing to spill the beans at the first sign of the gutter press shilling, Burrell is only one of many.

Personally, I am not a fan of a monarchy, but that being said, they do provide a position in the government of this country and they do command popular support, something I doubt an elected representative will be able to do, in the classic words of a software engineer "if it ain't broke don't mess with it".

The Royals do seem to have an uncanny ability to command loyalty from the right people, something critical in the ruling classes. Diana was no "royal", she was a media strumpet and her legacy of screw-ups will go on and on.

Burrell declares that the Princes are being manipulated by faceless royal advisors, too bloody right they are, and I should hope so too, after all they are destined to run the country, something with Burrell and his petty banal objectives seems to be unaware of.

Imagine a Head of State being advised by the likes of Burrell, Hewitt and Al Fayad, we'd really be royally f*cked.

When she died I fell out with some people at work, we worked the morning of her funeral before shutting early and I honestly couldn't see what all the fuss is about. Still can't.

I reckon we should get rid of the monarchy, not much use for them now.

Your suggestion for a replacement for a Head of State would be ... ?

Sarah Ferguson was my favourite royal, carried on trying to live the way she did before she married into the family and as a result it all went totally wrong.

But kudos to her for trying and no doubt having a good laugh along the way. I wouldn't suck her toes though, unless paid very well.

Aye thats excatly what my view is. The royals may not be great or anything but they're miles better than the retards we'd get if we replaced them. It would be like a cross between a celebrity, a mayor and an MP. I shudder to think.

Yes they do, but it's confusing.

Most bicameral governments have a Head of Government ("Prime Minister") and a Head of State ("President" or "Monarch"), the Government are known as the Legislative and create and debate laws, the State are known as the Executive and put the laws into force ("execute" them).

In America, the Executive is the President, which makes him Head of State, and the Legislative is Congress, made up of The Senate and The House of Representatives. Officially, the President is also "Head of Government", but the leader of the Legislative branch and the best comparison with a "Prime Minister" is the Leader of Congress.

A large turd wearing a crown - oh but thats the current system - how bout a big fat bulldog - its less likely to embarrass the country in public than prince philip - would be better looking than the queen and more in touch with reality than prince charles - plus you can even sell the kids.
