Patched to 1.60 (again)

For the third time, I've been patched to the USA 1.60 release.

I understand that this is caused by a timeout, when trying to connect to the patcher, but how difficult is it to change/remove the bloody hardcoded IP address?

So for the third time, I will be re-installing SI.

no need to reinstall just change your update.dat to show

Mythic Patch

Without access to the source code, it's pretty much impossible.

GOA has to wait for Mythic to fix it - if they feel like doing it at all.

Thanks Filmgoblin, but I tried that the last time (and this time) but it didn't work.

Its ok Alrindel I realise its out of GOA's hands , I was just heat-of-the-moment moaning. I agree its probably not seen as much of a priority, but it still sucks.

I put dummy entries in my local HOSTS file to prevent my machine from being able to connect to patch1.daoc.net, patch2.daoc.net, etc. At least that way if the patcher times out to GOA's server, it can't connect to Mythic's and break SI.

And as it happens, I totally agree with you. This is a stupid oversight that causes a disproportionate amount of trouble and is a no-brainer to fix - change a handful of lines of code, recompile, and distribute the new patcher. It's ten minute's work, but fixing problems in the european release seems to be low priority for Mythic's dev resources... a very annoying situation, to put it politely.

May I ask a silly question? No? good....

If you are already on the latest version of Euro DaoC, surely, if you start downloading 1.60, would it not be a good idea to hit the cancel button, and try again?

Or, is it trying to download the patch every single time? In this case... do the patch thingy!!

Dummy host file entry is a great idea.

The problem with cancelling the patch download is that I wasn't sure if we were getting a download (not looked on website) and as I couldn't tell what the download was, let it continue.(although if I see the magic size 11.8 meg, I will cancel in future - hey isn't hindsight great!).

Again, thinking back, it did come up with a message about updating the patcher, but I was on the phone, and didn't pay much attention- will next time though

No point in hitting cancel, once it attempts to connect to the US patcher after the initial timeout it will try each time until you change the update.dat file. So cancelling will not work

Im uninstalling it as we speak :bore:

I timed out of the game wednesday night, re-connected, says patch-updater had been updated, please restart, 11.8 meg download later and im on 1.59. :help:

I could still get in on the classic Daoc client, but thats not the point. I was in the middle of defending our frontier with a guild group and it was a crap time for it to happen.

The moment it started to download I canceled (i guessed what was happening) it but once it decides it wants you to connect to the US patcher, it made its mind up. :scared:

I even tried al roll back (on win XP) and that didnt work either.

If it wasnt such a bloody long instalation it wouldnt be such a chore..... :wall:
