Patch 1.29 and 1.30, both cause Quake3 to crash/hang the PC after five mins of playing. Everything works realy well until *Boom* system hang.

Its running on a twin 1ghz Pentium, with loads of memory and Windows 2000.

Anyone got any ideas? All was fine with 1.27, 129g patch, but not 1.29h or 1.30.

Did a clean install, (not a re-install) of Quake, and then added the patch 1.30. (Not sure if you are ment to add other patches first???)

Anyone know a way of finding some debug for this?

Regards Gaz

Silly question No.1 - Have you tried disabling SMP in the q3config?

Hi,

My config was: seta rsmp "0"

So I tried "1" and it hangs a lot sooner, but does not total freeze the PC, I can access the taskmanager. and kill quake3. Not quite the same sort of hang, if you know what I mean.

Thanks again for your help. Gaz

Hmm, tried various configs etc, got one thats quite fast FPS now,

But I found that If I start GameSpy Arcade to start a quake game, and play for five mins with GameSpy in the background Quake Hangs.

However If I Start GameSpy launch Quake, then pause quake, return to windows and close gamespy Quake does not seam to crash. (More testing to do.)

Yet more testing and it still crashes without gamespy, just take a little longer, back to square one. doh! Anyone got any other ideas I'd love to here from you.

Cool, thanks very much, I'll have a good look through that too.

I've also changed the BIOS AGP from 128 to 256 and it seams to have solved the problem. (or it now takes longer to go wrong..)

Cheers Gaz

I'm now convinced that there is a bug in 1.29h and 1.30, because I have eliminated all the other vars. If I go back to 1.29g everything is perfect.

Thanks again.

I've tried the FAQ, turning down the harware acc, on the sound card, turning off sound, changing the AGP app to all the different posibilities, and still no difference.

I realy am convinced that it's a bug in 1.29h which is not present in 1.29g. I'am about to give up with quake3, I've sent an email to ID with as much debug as I can get, in the hope that they will be able to help.

If not it's going to have to be half-life or something else.

Yours compleatly disapointed. Gareth
