Partition HDD ?

How the hell do i partition my HDD ?

I have never had to do this before, but the time has come for me to it.

Also do i have to do a fresh format before i partition ?

You can create partitions out of empty disk space that way, but I don't think you can resize current partitions. (unless you have a dynamic volume maybe ... can your OS be on a dynamic volume?)

You can create partitions during the install of the operating system on one of the early 'blue' 'dos' screens, though you can just choose to create a C: drive that is smaller than your disk, and use the method Xane mentioned to partition the rest after installation.

If you want to shrink or chop up an existing partition without having to reinstall the operating system or get all your data off the disk/backed up, then you might need to get hold of something like Partition Magic.
Of course I'd back up anything important anyway as fiddling with your partitions can go horribly wrong.
