Don't forget your booster seat so you can see out the rear view mirror Pikey.

What's brought this on, and are there pictures?

Since I got my HGV license parking a car is as easy as sitting down.

I started driving for the first time since passing my test the day after boxing day :D

I've already done a 200-odd mile journey, but I'm still yet to master the zen art of car parking :(

I stopped off at some services today and ended up getting the evils from some old guy in the car next to mine, possibly something to do with me parking at almost 90 degrees to the lines drawn on the ground... who knows? :D

To be fair, its a bigger car than I learned to drive in, so I guess its only natural for me take a bit of time to get used to parking - and its not really something I've practiced much either thinking about it; been more interested in actual driving :) Also, I've been driving a motorbike for three years, and parking bikes is really, really easy.

Those are my excuses and I'm sticking to them :D

No pics of diabolical parking, I'll have to remember to get some next time I'm out :D

best thing to do is to ignore everything the instructor taught you, once you've got a feel for the car it becomes easier.

You've not practised parking much? Do you slow down to 5mph then dive out the car door? :D

Are you talking about reverse parking or just going in front ways. Just aim for the general direction and then straighten up I guess.

Doing it in my lessons atm, find out where you need to turn to park correctly, find points on the windows were things are when your parking that you can apply to most situations....

....Or put the mirrors down to see :p

Well the first thing you need to know is where the nearside front wheel is. Best way to do that is by 'measuring it' against a point on the bonnet of the car.

As for parallel parking, my method is foolproof. Pull directly alongside car in front of space. Engage full lock, reverse, straighten steering wheel once the reg plate of the car behind is bisected by your offside rear wing. Keep reversing straight, full lock (as required) the other direction once your nose has cleared the car in front. Never fails.

I was taught that way too and it is indeed foolproof.

You could angle your passenger side wing mirror down so you can see how close you are to the kerb

If you're talking about parking in a bay, find an empty car park and practice, or just drive in forwards. I always go in forwards anyway so I can get to my boot...

Cheers for the advice, I've been doing some of these things, but I guess its just practice, will probably get out this week and give it a go practicing :)

Sounds like you're a woman tbh. :D

Yea, I was thinking the same when I wrote this out! Its a bit worrying tbh, it starts off with having trouble parking, then before I know it I'll be putting aprons on to cook and talking about wallpaper :(

You've not practised parking much? Do you slow down to 5mph then dive out the car door? :D

Haha no, but I'll have to try this technique and see how it goes :D

Well done to the person for at least spinning the car around to face uphill. They can at least TRY to slow down by jamming it uphill... they're more likely to burn their clutch out before stopping. :)

The only thing I could think of there would be to have let the wheels keep rolling to try and remain in control of the steering at least, but as we can't see how steep the gradient was it still might have had no effect.

I like how they chose to film the street instead of warning motorists :|

O RLY

YouTube- Paignton Ice Skating for Cars

"This couple were warned by neighbours not to venture out that day and they were the only people to attempt to drive on that road. There were numerous pedestrians around who could barely walk on the black ice so a car really stood no chance.

Near the start of the video you can see a recovery truck. This had been stuck there, blocking the road for 3 hours and didn't move for another 2 hours after this incident.

Thankfully, no pedestrians or children were hit by the shamelessly abandoned car.

PLEASE, check your local roads before setting out on a journey. Listen to local radio, speak to neighbours and try to avoid being part of incidents like this.

To all the haters, this video is going nowhere. Get over it. "
