Morning higher beings! :fluffle:

Having not played for a year, I've decided to renew my subs. My merc is fairly straight forward (played him for years ) and the same with the thuergist. However the paladin I had only really played a little and I've noticed that they have newer chants.

So could someone explain the best way to twist them or how to use them as a collective please? :worthy::worthy:

Also, whats a good spec for a defensive rvr paladin (Primary job is to protect healer and provide tanks with end/celerity etc.

My pally has 42 shield, somewhere in the 20's slash (think it was 28 or something like that, not sure though), 48 chants and rest parry.
About twisting the chants I always twist them by starting with an end chant, then do another chant, then end chant again, another chant, ... (you get the point) and end with the healing chant (so you can double-heal). I also don't use the chants that give more resists to certain types of damage, so I only use the chants to increase combat speed/damage/AF/...
I hope this helped :)

my pala is 50 chants 42 shield 39 slash n rest parry since autotrain is no more.
gives magic shield at 50 spec.

but i use clarity, heal, battle n end chant in my main twists, but you can work out which works best for wot you are doin.

meaning move heal chant n end chant to where you need depending on how much end you use imo.

i always thought for a group pally you only needed 44 chants for end and celerity, as the AF chant doesnt stack with the bb AF and the heal chant is pretty lousy and the damage add is better got from wizard or theurg :)

Thanks very much for the input guys.

Do I assume that I can twist everyone of the chants? i.e. Theirs not a maximum number that can be taking effect? :)

Defensive Specs:

29+ slash (amy slash)
42+ Shield (slam)
44+ chants (red celerity) (45 and 46 give red heal and damage add, not vital for 8v8 but probably worth getting if you have the points. Above 46 is pretty much a waste)

Where you put the remaining points is down to personal preference, if you want higher parry, better weaponskill, more shield, etc. If you have at least the above you won't be "gimped".
There's some other specs that don't have the above that also work, but they tend to be more specialist.

As for twisting.. you can twist as many chants as you can fit on your keyboard with the caveat that every twist uses endurance. This means if you had 12 fingers on each hand you could twist every chant sucessfully, although you couldn't do that as well as sprint or use styles. It's much better just to have running the chants you actually require so you have maximum end for catching and styling on your enemy.

Having end chant up is pretty much a given for every circumstance.
You probably also want to have celerity up during most fights.
Damage add is situational. If you don't have a theurg or wizard then it's worth having up. It does add a bit of damage even if you have eb from them but it's not much so there may be better things to run.
The magic absorb is fairly crappy, especially as you give up alot to get the highest level of it, normally not worth running but stick it in if you've got the twisting space and end to support it.
Heal chant is a must for PvE'ing. In RvR it's situational.. in FG's against caster groups it will do next to nothing, in small groups or against low damage groups it's worth having.
AF buff as pointed out doesn't stack woth cleric AF buff so it's pretty much never worth it.

It's also worth noting that the recast on buffs is slightly longer than their duration. That means the only one you'll have permantly is the last one you cast. Deciding which one you want up 100% of the time is going to again be situational. If your tanks are running out of end, then end on that. If you have a friar with end reduction it might be worth ending on celerity instead. It's something you have to get used to as you play and adapt depending on the group and circumstances. Ending on heal will give almost twice the healing effect since the spell pulses then gets refreshed almost immediately for another tick. Nice to use if you need to up your healing for a while or in PvE where your trying to get as much aggro as possible from the mob.

Also never do "end->celerity->end->heal" as someone above suggested. You'll gain an extra fraction of a second of end buff.. the time it takes you to hit 2 keys, but the end you'll lose hitting it twice will be much greater than that. It also uses up another finger on your twist bar for a negative effect!

Lol Golena..:p in rvr just twist celerity/that ablative thingy and end as often as u can and u'll be ok:)...dmg add and heal are well pointless and AF chant doesnt stack with cleric one as one pointed above ;)..have fun

Cleric: Run about and spam spreadheal when you can
Caster: F8 and spam baseline nuke
Tank: Mash taunt key when in range of target

All good and valid guides to "being ok"!

Idd, I do know that when you twist like that, you will actually lose more end instead of getting it yourself, but if you do twist it that way, your teammates will have absolutely no chance of running out of endurance. So when the team is in dire need of end, I do recommend using the end-celerity-end-heal (for example) twist. Why? simple: it's better imo to have 1 dude in the team without end and 7 with end to do all the styles they ever wanted to do, then 1 dude with enough end and 7 dudes with occasional end problems.
Well, that's just pure theoreticly, since I've never played my pala in RvR alot, so can't really walk the walk :) But 1 thing I know for sure: nobody has ever complained in my team, when grouped with pala, about not having enough end :) (and I do have enough end to do a few style effects before I run out of endurance, but then I can twist again and get a new higher end regen, so actually it's pretty possible to still have enough end (only slam is becoming harder to do this way) to damage the enemy)

but Golena is right on all else offcourse :)

Seems ok bud. Only started playing again last week and although it's not like it was in the good days, there does seem enough going on. Always welcome in the TBC bud - would make a great addition. Let me know if you decide to come back - miss ya cornish tones on TS! :fluffle:

P.S Might have to try that spec - not sure if I'd be any good playing a solo pala but only one way to find out . . .

Interested to hear how you get on...

Still toying with the idea of a trial return but not found the right reasons to do it yet

Wisty and Smelly - I'm honoured :) You guys should give it a shot - you'd both be welcome to join TBC and we do try to get on about once a week (usually a Friday) and we're part of a very active alliance with CM. I'm sure given your experience and RR you'd be a welcome addition in any alb rvr grp.

Tbh what else is there until Warhammer . . .
