I dont profess to knowing a great deal about world politics, but I dont think either government has the guts, or backing, for all out war.

I just hope it dosnt de-generate into suicide bombings and more of that crap.

:(

climb-down. sure, they'll rattle a few nukes, perhaps shoot a few borderguards here and there and deffo hate eachother for another 100 years or so, but they will back down. I believe they fear the repercussions more than they hate each other.
Let's hope it stays that way [or better, they find peace].

I think it's fairly obvious that it's not going to come to war with the way things are at the moment.

It'd take some *really* stupid terrorist incident from the pakistani side into India to push them into war.

The worry is - that if war did happen - Pakistan would HAVE to use their nukes. They can't win a conventional war against India and neither side have such an overwhelming amount of nuclear weapons that both sides can see a victory in a nuclear confrontation.....

If it does kick off I'm glad I'm leaving Bradford - they're all fucking nutters there! :)

The main problem is :

Pakistanis and Indian's do not get on at the best of times. Their mentality is look after themselves and fuck anyone else.

Who knows what is going to happen.

The threat of sanctions should shut them both up. TBH couldn't give a toss about them though, unless that nuke button gets used.

I think the fear is that India would kick Pakistan's ass in a ground war(they have Gurkha's you know), so people are worried that Pakistan would press the trigger, but the president of Pakistan has already stated that he wouldn't do it. They should worry more about their internal problems rather a tiny, rocky country(which I believe wants to join Pakistan).

I thought they wanted independence from both countries?
Oh and though the Indian army is larger then the Pakistan one. India would not have an easy job in defeating Pakistan mainly because of logistik trouble India would have. According to some calculations they could only fight a tech war for a couple of months, not enough to defeat Pakistan.

I heard somewhere that the Kasmir(sp) people wanted to be part of Pakistan but the government wanted to be part of India, the best solution is for them to be independant I guess. My money would still be on India if it (god forbid)ever went to a ground war, I'm sure either country can't afford any war tbh.

In one word, its the usual problem.

Religon.

Background is more complicated of course, its mainly due to the split of the indian subcontinent when both countries gained independance, hindu's got india, muslims pakistan, the countries were rather hopelessly divided up resulting with various peoples being in the wrong place. Thats the basis of the argument i believe, im sure someone will correct me if wrong.

No, it was the Americans ... it's always the Americans. If you drop your toast butter side down, it's the Americans. It's just simple galactic law.

(besides, they buggered up the rest of the middle east, why would they stop with one 3rd world country, where there are so many others  )

Nail on the head.

Religion is so much a part of the culture over there, it controls almost everyone.

You can practically wake up one moring and decide you want to be a holy man and "puff" you are a holy man.

Also, the Koran is totally open to interpretation and can be twisted to suit any stoopid feckers ideas. Because it is religion, everyone goes along with it. Thats why there is so much backing when they decide on a "Holy" War.

Stopoid fecked up country (ies) if you ask me.

Yup, this is one they managed to fuck up themselves without any western cock ups. Must be a pretty screwed up area when all they can argue about is over who believes in what.
