Painworking Necros...

... any tips on how they should solo?

My little guy has just turned level 5 and must confess to not having a damn clue how to play him. Whenever I cast a spell the zombie runs closer and closer to the mob and, before you know it, is fighting away.

Not sure I like the necromancer class all that much but would like to get to 10 before deciding whether to keep or delete.

Thanks in anticipation :)

You need to keep casting spells really to stop the Zombie running at the mobs.

It is also worth looking around the net for the correct use of Facilitate Painworking, which allows your Zombie to get off a couple of uniterrupted spells during the melee when the mob reaches your Zombie. Its not that easy to use, but makes a big difference in your damage output.

As a rough guide (and i'm fully specced in DeathSight), I pull from as far away as I can and usually get off 3 powertaps/lifetaps (with the 3.0 sec casting time) before the mob is in melee with the Zombie. If the mob is nearly dead I then just do a few Instant lifetaps to kill him. If he is still quite healthy i'll use Facilitate Painworking. If done correctly you can then get off 2 powertap/lifetaps (the 3.0 sec casting versions, but done as instants). That usually kills off the mob.

I find that yellows can be chain pulled and sometime oranges. This is solo with no buffing. You should focus on killing undead mobs as you get big bonuses against them.

The main problem i'm having at the moment with my Necro is that when he is grouped with other Necros, you can't tell whos Zombie is whos and often the Zombies will run off into the agro zones in the confusion, thus pulling loads of mobs onto the unsuspecting group.

In open spaces it isn't too bad, but i'm dreading taking a Zombie into dungeons.

Nightlore, lvl15 Necro.

lol that had nothing to do with what he was asking

I just respecced my level 40 necro to painworking and it seems a bitch to figure out how to avoid dying. What I'm doing atm is pulling with ae snare, ae con/str debuff them then when theyre on me I use FP and pbae dot twice to make sure none resisted... then I cast HoT and then insta dot them all individually... youve got no chance of doing this on yellows... my advice is try on blues ;) hope this helps.

Docwolfe got it about best. DSi is a completely different ballgame. When I tested, I tested as DSe and PW to a certain degree. DSi is pretty much chaining orange and occasional yellows. PW is, as DW said, taking on 2/3 blues.

Hmm. The only L50 Necro I recall that was 50 PW got there by grouping with others (normally another full DSi Necro, so I don't know the effectiveness of soloing. Still, in RvR, PW should be a lot more fun with those DoTs.
