Packet Loss!

Am I the only one who went LD to come back to very long long waits from the patch and login server and then get massive packet loss in game (unplayable)?

Everything else is fine so its not my general connection...

Yeh

I been getting really shitty connects lately. 2second delays on drawing my sword really help in RvR

Dunno if its my ISP (Freeserve) or thier end but its sucky atm for sure

They announced on the DAOC Europe web site that they would be tinkering with the patch server in preparation for the 1.48 rollout and that sometimes access would be spotty.

As for latency, I have also noticed it being a bit laggy the past couple of days, and I have had half a dozen linkdeads - very unusual for me as usually the connection to GOA's servers from noos.fr has been excellent. But whether the problem is GOA, Wanadoo or noos, I have no idea.

Well the login process is a bit quicker now, but once I'm ingame the performance meter (shift-p) always shows yellow for packet loss going onto red sometimes. I press my heal button, and about 2 seconds later I start casting. About the same for chat.

As a healer with 7 different people in a group to heal, obviously this makes grouping impossible.

(By the way, is there a way of doing a connection test on the game server? I tried using the IP address that shows when you enter the game but it times out)

There could be several reasons for this.

One is the preperation of the servers for the patch.

Two could be that Freeserve are sucky no matter what (I used to work for their Technical Support)

Last could be this story:

"European Internet Problems? E-Bone Closure Looms - DarkYouth
In just under two hours it is predicted that the E-Bone, a major part of the European Internet will be shutting down. Making up a large chunk of the underlying infastructure for Internet traffic, it is estimated that the E-Bone carries between 30% and 50% of the European internet traffic. Customers included Microsoft and Yahoo.

For the best part of two weeks it the employees have been maintaining the network for free, in the hopes of a buyer coming forward. However it seems that enough is enough, and unless a buyer makes a move by 17:00 CET (6pm GMT) then they will call it quits and be leaving (Message Here). You can find the Staff Site here, where remaining workers have been making themselves heard.

Although the Internet was designed to withstand nuclear attacks, it is unsure how this will affect performance or just how many of the remaining KPNQwest customers will be left in the dark. Hopefully something will crop up at the last minute, otherwise a lot of gamers (and businesses ;)) will find themselves in the deep end."

Taken from GameSpy, and I believe the story is being tracked by SlashDot as well. Not sure if there was a resolution found.

ttl and no packet loss

My provider is german t-online and they seem to be fine, however ping plotter is giving me enormous speed reductions between Geneva and Banglonet. So there seems to be a problem there with bandwidth. Condition is found during the last 3 days and usually returns to almost normal in the later evenings. Gameplay is almost impossible during the time from noon to like 20:00 CET.

Guess nothing can be done about it, since it isn't at GoAs end.

T-online my provider too

T-Online is my provider too :-/

The packet loss only occured after about midday on saturday and sunday and continued until after about midnight (obviously only checking every so often in that period but I'm sure it was constant). After that, it was fine.

And its fine now, I guess its just the weekend load but its going to suck if I can't play at all during the weekend now.
