P4 Roadshow

Had to say it was funny........Intel have really fooked up big style with this processor and are trying to express its abilities on packages that wouldn't need any where near 1.5Ghz to run.

Only good thing about it is the knock on effect of depressing prices of other processors.

I've tested both a P4 1.5Ghz and an AMD Athlon 1.2Ghz. In general use they were about as fast as each other. Some benchmarks were faster on Athlon, other on P4. But the interesting thing was how much better P4 handled multitasking. By the time Athlon was creaking and giving up P4 was going strong.

I like the P4. Tis an impressive chip. Just a bit too expensive atm. In 2 years time it will blow everything eelse away tho, when its at 3.5Ghz and Athlon is stuck at 2.

And Clawhammer. Those are the ones that might actually need major multitasking ability. How many of us at home have 3 or more apps doing work all at the same time (rather than just open) ? Athlon multitasks a lot better than P3 tho. And I'm happy enuff with my P3-1gig tbh.

No point in getting a P4 until we see if Northwood improves it anyway.

TBH Multi-tasking is based more on what OS you have.

Im afraid for true multi-tasking you need to go back in time 15 years technology wise as the AMIGA was the only true multitasker.

Really ;)

At the end of the day a processor can only excute one thing at a time, multi-tasking is how well it organises and how fast it organises things to be done.

Even the TV adverts for the P4 are really crap....least the P3 ones were alright :)
