I work in the industry and know the measures taken to prevent self excluded punters from betting again. Its easy for my company because we are online and dont take cash. Therefore we can check addresses, credit card numbers and the rest of it. In fact we are obliged to do so within 3 days or we are not allowed to give the punter any money (he can fund his account but not withdraw til verified). Either will hill failed utterly to check properly or this dude scammed the system. If it was will hill failing to check properly then the geezer may well have a case, if it was him scamming it then its 101% his fault.

Things can be complex, but at the heart of the matter there is always only one real "truth".

Your confusing two different things here - perceptions of truth are one thing but what nath said is about reality - in reality nothing is ever black n white and those who chose to see the world as composed of black n white are either blinkered or idiots - most people grow out of such views once they have some life experience.

Upon reading the article again, not sure if there's more info since last time or I just took more in but I'm now fairly sure I don't think the guy should get the compensation. It seems pretty clear that if William Hill had done their job properly he probably would have lost the money elsewhere.

However it still seems, given the information in the article, that William Hill didn't do their job properly when it came to the self-exclusion. Given that self-exclusion is put in place as a measure to stop exploiting people with a problem, I think they need to be dealt with.

The legal opinion is that he will fail but that the judgement may well set an important precedent in terms of setting out what duties a bookie does owe a customer who self excludes.

I really don't think Will Hill is at fault, they are a company and need to make money, corporations will go to any length to get your business and quiet right too otherwise they'd go bust.

Stupid legistations are bought in by the government to cover such idiot's as this guy.

As i've said above he showed no compassion taking 30k a month from gamblers betting on his greyhounds so why should we show him compassion?

As for the fat gags, not long back the chocolate guys did get told about encouraging fatness via the kingsize bars so the clever marketing guys introduced the duo's which you can share.

Basically marketing exists to get customers to make the company money, nobody forces people to buy the products, its about time people started taking responsibility for their actions again (like they used to before all this lawsuit bollocks)

I dont see how I've confused the two at all? I've stated that I believe the truth is never grey, I've stated that I think people's perecptions of the truth can be grey, that there can be obscurity, but that at the end of the day the truth is the truth.

It seems to me that people are reading my posts as saying nothing is ever grey. I'm not saying that, I'm just saying that the truth isnt.

in reality nothing is ever black n white and those who chose to see the world as composed of black n white are either blinkered or idiots - most people grow out of such views once they have some life experience.

So nothing is ever black and white, and anyone who sees things differently is either blinkered or an idiot, no other possible explanation. Seems like you're making that situation pretty black and white to me.

Some people have different opinions and ways of looking at things to you, that in itself does not necessarily make them ignorant or idiotic.

At the end of the day it was HIS habit that lost him the money, nobody forced him to gamble, he worked in the industry so knew that it was a mugs game yet he still blew everything he had on it. What sort of message would it give out that no matter what you do there is always someone else to blame and something to fall back on.

I hope he loses and then has to pay William Hills legal costs too.
