Overplayed classes?

Greetings!
Thinking of buying SWG either as soon as EU version or released or I get a hold of a US one. So here I am browsing through proffessions...

Would just like to ask you a few questions for those who can answer ;)

Is there any clear overplayed profession? Which seems to be the most played?

And to counter that, is there any clear underplayed proffession? Which seems to be the least played?

Suppose Creature Handler is a popular pick, and tbh I'm quite attracted to that proffession as well, although wouldn't like to play a class that is overplayed :/

Thanks in advance!

It varies literally from patch to patch, given the Devs propensity to beef up random classes to Godlike standards and then pull them back again when the inevitable backlash ensues.

Right now Bounty Hunters and Commandos at the profession du jour. Creature Handlers are generally always moaned at for being too powerful - they're pretty much the only effective tanks (by proxy) in the game right now.

Going off the top of my head.

Overplayed class's : Creature handler, Smuggler, Commando, Bounty hunter, Docter, Weapon/Armoursmith, Pistolier, Dancer/Musician.

Underplayed class's : Droid engineer, Bio engineer, Chef, Squad leader, image designer, and any melee class.

This will vary over time and servers, a few weeks ago there wasnt many commandos about now there is lots for example.

Dancer and musician lol wtf NO WAY, neither popular or very good.

While on the proffession topic, how is the respec feature in SWG? Personally I don't like the idea all too much, and would rather see a system much like daocs when it comes to respeccing. Train and live with it, with a few exeptions (Stones and Patch respecs when it comes to daoc). Doesn't seem to be any change to this system of respec? Somehow the whole idea of roleplaying goes lost as it actually becomes a Massively Multiplayer Online Multi-roleplaying Game once you're given unlimited respecs ala Neocron. Although perhaps the system works quite fine?

Cheers for replies btw ;-)

Hmm, the cantinas are always populated by dancers & musicians. There seem to be more dancers than musicians most times but I'd say the professions are both popular enough at the moment.

And tuckk - the "respeccing" thing seems to work fine. It's very different to daoc - you get experience in a skill by using it and once you have enough in any particular skill you can train the next box up in it. You can surrender these at any time but of course you lose the XP you had in that skill box. What this means is that you don't really have "unlimited respecs" as it were since it takes a lot of time to get that XP back again but you can change your career path at any time.

For instance, I started off going for artisan/weaponsmith but found it a bit dull so I'm now slowly untraining the artisan skills as and when I need the skill points for skills in my new chosen professions. It means I've "wasted" all that time I spent XP'ing the artisan skills but I just see that as adding to the longevity of the game for me :)

BTW they've said you'll be able to play on any server with any version of the game so if you want to play on EU servers (once they go live) you don't have to wait to buy an EU copy of the game :)

Ah so basically "respeccing" means you'll still have to go through the same work to acheive a new proffession as someone who just started? Assuming you have to go all the way back to the start?

About these Droid Engineers btw, thought they would be quite popular tbh. Have they been nerfed to oblivion, or just not a common interest?

Also would it feel silly to start playing the game now several months after release? Is everyone running around with Masters, or are there still people skilling up?

I suppose you won't be able to move your US char to the EU version though? Just that you can play EU version with the US game? Does the US servers get off limit once you pay activision though? Would seem logical I suppose ;p

You don't go all the way back to the start. You surrender skills one at a time so you go gradualy back. It's very flexible.

DE's aren't really working very well at the moment, there's very few droids in the game. Mostly people are using pets instead since the droid combat abilities are very poor and they suffer from the risk of perma-death unlike pets. I have no doubt that DE's will get fixed at some point.

This has been answered in your other thread - suffice to say I only started playing 2 weeks ago and I'm having a blast. And there is indeed a constant stream of new players every day.

Thankfully droid permadeath is no longer in the game, they incap just like creature handler pets at the minute.

The main problems with droids is they are pretty useless unless you are a crafter.

They have very little functionality and the combat droids are pretty pathetic right now. The devs have said they will be adding more combat droids, but most of the droid engineer community has very little faith that anything they add will be of any use after the concerns they expressed about Non-Creature Handler pets. :(

Praying for some sort of fix right now ;)

Make it so they can make Droidekas :D That would kick ass.

Although, the resources required would have to be pretty insane - otherwise it'd just be like having AT-STs, without the faction point cost.

The thing about "respeccing" is, a skill costs xp to buy it. Say "Field Tactics" costs 200,000 of squad leadership xp, when you buy that skill, your 200,000 xp gets "spent". You also then use up 5 skill points.

When you surrender the skill, you will get your 5 skill points back, but the 200,000 xp is lost.

Yep loads on Lok, even a dungeon at the volcano at bottom of map with them in, and IG-88 assasin droids.

Hm

Maybe they should give DE the ability to take control of other mechanical mobs.

that would just make DE's into a different type of Creature Handlers and there's just far too many of them tbh.

I'm also not holding my breath for Droideka's... there are three types that spawn as mobs, CL8 (useless as a pet), CL35 and CL45. CL35 is a lot higher that CL15 that everyone can own so without some kind of certification system its not looking hopeful.
