Overclockers The True Story

My m8s experience with Overclockers
Had a problem with this bundle bought off Overlclockers.
That warrenty and the "gurantee" still stood
So sent it back
Then sent an email sayin they would refund it
Then the next week or so and they send back the bundle
With a message sayin processor damage during installation
M8 rang them up
They bark abuse
and said and I quote
"half the processor was missin"
He desparatly tried to explain the situation
but the guy put the phone down on him

Being Treated wrong by this firm please let me know
By voicing your opinon here

Maybe it would be better to tell someone like which or watchdog rather than spouting your friend's thoughts publically

What do you hope to achieve by posting this in a gaming forum? Complain to the manager!

Just to contrast, I've never had any problems with them...

So why was half the processor missing? Burnt out? Did your mate not have any cooling system?

I'm not going to stop buying from anyone until I know what the other half of the story is.

I think there's warnings all over the site about being *very* careful when putting on heatsinks, as it's easy to break the CPU.

I don't know whether this is what happened, but it sounds like it.

TBH if half the core was missing then I wouldn't expect them to take it back.....its like installing RAM and then blowing it through static charge....its his fault for crushing the core.

Indeed. Its comparable to walking into dixons and buying a new trinitron TV, pulling the innards out at home, and asking them to take the shell back when it appears not to work. Your friend is evidently a pleb.

NEVER EVER EVER EVER USE THESE MUPPETS!!!

If you get kit from them and it works then you're doing well. If it goes wrong, you're pretty much fucked. I had a massive trauma with them over a stupid bloody DVD drive worth 40 quid and it's put me off EVER buying from them again. In the midst of all that it turns out that several hundred others were also mightily pissed off with Scan and their service.

If you wanna buy from them and think they're cheap (in quite a few cases even their "Today Only" deals are cheaper or same price elsewhere.) Remember that for all those deals you have to add VAT AND 11.75 for delivery. Even if its just a stick of memory.

Be very wary of them. Don't say I didn't warn you.

On a DVD Forum I frequent, there's a lot of unrest about scan. There was a 40+ post thread moaning at them recently. It sparked off one guy doing threads like this one...

Comparing Scan's price to it's competitors. There's a couple of others there too. If you do a search for Scan on that forum you'll find PLENTY of stories about them and Scan's boss Nilesh (Nelly) doing a very poor job of defending himself.

Erm, nope, shims are next to useless, they won't stop you crushing the core, as the core has to stand proud of the shim in order to remain in contact with the heatsink...it doesn't need to be completely crushed in order for it to be rendered inoperable...

I've fitted about 25-30 AMD socket-A cpu's and at least double the amount of heatsinks and haven't crushed any (yet) - and that been with some utter BASTARD's of clips...

If he's crushed the core so badly that it's split in two, then it's his bag - OcUK test all the CPU's before sending them out (that includes fitting a heatsink on them) so they can rule out manufacturing defects.

I've never had any problems with overclockers, or any other online store (apart from Scan's returns dept who are a tad slow and need to be hassled constantly)...

So you expect OCUK to replace a chip which your friend crushed as he is a complete mongoloid? Interesting.

Welcome to the real world.

Having said that Orange replaced my phone after I spilt beer on my old one.

Hint for later in life. Beer and Nokia 7110's dont get along well.

I too have had no problems with Overclockers.co.uk at all. In fact when my motherboard upped and died of its own volition, they replaced it with a new one after about a week - no question asked. I did have to pay for posting it, but this is generally par for the course for most retailers..

Likewise. Although its common knowledge that AMD cores are more sensitive to getting crushed than Intel, assuming you didn't drop something onto it you'd have to be pretty retarded to crush one, let alone snap it in half.

I've fitted/removed a Swiftech MC462 heatsink onto my existing CPU a number of times without crushing anything. This thing is so big & heavy it has to be screwed onto the motherboard. Now that is a scary experience. Chances are if your friend tried the same he'd probably end up snapping his motherboard in two as well as his CPU.

So you expect OCUK to replace a chip which your friend crushed as he is a complete mongoloid? Interesting.
:D
