Overclockers and Tug (long)

Ok message to Tug really, but thought the rest of you O/C'ers might be interested.

I'm looking into getting one of the 550E FC-PGA processors to run on my Abit BX board.

There are a few probs that need to be overcome. The requirements are to have a Socket 370 compatible mobo, it has to be able to support a core voltage of 1.6v and thirdly it has to support the VRM 8.4 DC-DC Converter Guidelines. Now most O/C'ers BX boards support the 1st two, but there are no BX boards that support the final requirement at the moment.

My question to Tug is, can you get a Slocket converter to fit on my Slot 1 Abit that has a built in VRM 8.4 Dc-DC Converter. I know this is possible to do, and it seems the only solution to getting these processors running on BX Boards.

I saw over at Overclockers.co.uk,that they have slockets that support FC-PGA's but I very much doubt it has a converter on it for £14. And if it doesn't it won't work with BX Boards?

Can you check this out Tug or anyone else in the know, as I cant find anything on the web about it.

Hope this is useful to other prospective FC- PGA overclockers.

) Im known as storm over at the overclockers msg board if u have any questions.

Yes, we have the iwill slotkets that have the required power support for coppermines. If you have an abit BE6-II it will deffo work, i think earlier boards like BH6's, BX6-2's etc etc dont support the new power requirements. Its the later boards like BE6, BE6-II's and BF6's that do support the new power spec.

Basically, its just intel being arsey and moving the pins for power on the cpu to a diff location so normal slotkets/socket 370 boards wont be able to power a coppermine.

BTW, i was lookin at the iwills and the bigger FDP/FEP32 globalwin coolers will be a VERY tight fit... infact the FDP wont go on as the plastic retention shroud thingy gets in the way cuz the fdp32 is dead wide.

The FEP may fit but it'll touch the capacitors on the right hand side of the converter card.

Cheers
