Outlook Problem

My outlook keeps turning off. I will boot it up and it comes up with the outlook screen and the *wham* off again.

My ISP is ntl, broadband and my OS is Win XP pro with 512mb ram.

Have you tried 'help>detect and repair' in any office menu?

If that doesn't work, find your *.pst file, back it up, and reinstall from the disc. There are also updates available online.

What flavour Outlook? 2000/XP/2003/Outlook Express?

Also, what do you mean by "Outlook Screen"? Do you mean the logo (splash screen) that appears?

When it happens, take a look at Task Manager (either Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete or right click on the taskbar, choosing the "Task Manager" from the following menu).

The Applications Tab will probably not show it, so click "Processes" and look for "Outlook.exe".

If it's there, check how much memory it says its using, whether it's using any CPU time and whether it appears on the list more than once.

As for solutions: Check Windows Update and Office Update for patches.

You could also try searching the Microsoft Support Pages

Initially, my instinct would drift towards you needing a reinstall, which would be a pain. If that's the problem, then (Assuming this is Outlook, not Express) you'll find the file with all your email and stuff in:

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outllook

You'll find two files: "Outlook.pst" and "Archive.pst", back them both up, and after a reinstall you'll find that you can import them using:

File -> Open -> Personal Folders File (.pst)

I remember having a similar problem after I tried to install sp1 for office. A reinstall didn't work, I had to do some serious googlage to find out how to change my product key.
