Getting attacked each day by vira and trojan horses.
Mostly Klez.H@rmm and Backdoor/SubSeven.
(getting at least 3 virus infected emails and 1 trojan horse per day :) )

Dunno what could have happened to your CD though - seems wierd.

Yeah totally bemused I am, as installing it came up with cannot copy file, your Windows 2000 CD maybe corrupt or malfunctioning I was like WTF!??!

So carried on installing ignoring the error thinking naaaaa its just dust on the CD and then BOOM BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) on the final part of the install

So now I am hunting at work for replacement OS, typical 1.50 comes out and I get a dud machine

Long shot here, but maybe it either infected your master boot record or your bios. Theoretically it is possible. Never heard of a virus infecting your cdromdrive tbh, but I guess anything flashable can be infected. Another option is that your cdromdrive is simply malfunctioning, not necessarily caused by the virus (this happened to a friend of mine last week). Try it with another cddrive and another windows installation cd first before attempting any of the following.

Resetting your master boot record can be done with fdisk /mbr (boot from floppy or cd). Long time since I used fdisk, but I think you'll have to repartition and reformat the lot after that, coz it basically wipes the filesystem from your HD. Only way to be sure your entire HD is cleaned.

Resetting your bios to default values can be either done from the bios itself, or by removing the battery from your mainboard and then putting it back. That should get rid of anything infecting your bios.

Use these tips at your own risk, and anyone more knowledgable on these things please correct me where needed.

Simply formatting wont help u.
As the virus may be in the bootsector of the harddrive.

Turn of yout computer entirely w8 a while b4 turning it on like 6 Sec.
Get a boot disk "floppy" or bootable CD.
Boot up on the CD, and go into command prompt.

Do a Fdisk /mbr <driveletter:>
to reset to MS bootsector "a clean one".
Formatting your "bootable" partition at this time is a good idea.

Then install OS, i would suggest u get a virusscanner asap since u seem to get shit like that.

ALSO take away ALL publik writable network shares on your harddrive.
As this is a welcome target for LAN spreading viruses. Escescially if u are using win XP.
