Anyone know a cheap way of getting hold of an OS, after either Win2k Prof or WinXP Prof. Running 2k atm but don't have the discs :-/

Btw whats wrong with the XP home edition??

Win XP is ok.
It has some of the networking feature removed, but for home use it's fine.

The cheapest way to get a new version of Windows is to buy a new PC, quite often windows comes packaged with it.
Of course that means you gotta buy a new Pc..:D

Had BIG problems with lag in win2k changed to XP pro and the game is running flawless now.. Was even atending a dragon raid with all effects with xp and had almost no lag. With Win2k it was unplayable even without any effects on

Cush thats really really really strange ... id put that down to lack of configuration ... as 2k can be a right bitch to configure it takes alot less resources then XP and is better for many games.

I recentlly switced to xp from W2K overall frame rate seems a bit lower and i get gfx lag a bit faster but in big batles fps seems to stay higher then before.

If you got a VIA chipset and are runing W2K make sure you got the latest 4in1 drivers, it makes ALOT of difrence

BTW, OEM versions can legaly be sold with a new hard drive, not all stores do/know this tho.

If you are a student you can get cheap student liscences aswell

Motherboards have Chipsets that simplified run the damn thing :p

Anyway there are many manufacturers of these chipsets VIA being one of them .... if you can tell me your motherboard make/name ill tell you the relevant drivers.

Oh and on the subject of FPS XP and win2k do have dif drivers for gfx etc etc and while the latest XP version of them may be good as with all drivers the latest win2k may slow down or even cause problems

I've always used Win2k and had no problems at all, whereas I have heard a few negative things about every MS OS released since then

or for people that don't want too much of a hassle with their PC at home, because they tinker with em all day at work :)

besides that, VIA drivers are always important. not just for Win2k.
